The Azusa Street Revival that began in 1906 led to 600 million Pentecostal and Charismatic converts globally and makes its instigator, William Seymour, the most spiritually influential Black man who ever lived. This excellent documentary tells the story with the aid of abundant eyewitness testimony. When you learn the price Seymour and his Black friends had to pay to bring on this revival, you will understand why modern believers who claim to long for revival have not found that longing fulfilled. No sermon I've ever heard impacted me the way this documentary did. This video may well change your life and its priorities:

Be sure to wait for each of the 4 parts of the video to display after a brief wait.
This thread will also post the best videos of the 2 other greatest revivals of the 20th century, the Welsh Revival that led to the Azusa Street revival and the great Hebrides Revival.

Revivals/Spiritual Awakenings start...
- With those who are..broken & hungry.
During the early days of Revivals, they are criticized, despised, etc..
- Because it breaks..the existing pattern/establishment.
That is why..not many people (& church establishments) are interested.
---
I am working on the book project.
- One part of the book is on..'Revivals/Spiritual Awakenings'..
- In Christian history.

Have a look at the two I mentioned - there are already plenty of books about them.

Interesting to note:
During the early years of the 20th century, there were Revivals (in some countries)..
- In Asia, South America & Africa.

@Pathfinder7 Another point could be made about revival being of a spiritual nature that necessarily brings an interest and pursuit of Scripture and prayer. Some of what is called revival can be emotional and extrovert and loud, but not backed up with a humbling of the sinner for a life of self-effacing and prayerful pursuit of the Word of God.

"Revive Thy work, O Lord!
And make Thy servants bold;
Convict of sin and work once more
As in the days of old." (F.Crosby)

Habakkuk 3.2: "O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy."

Farouk,
Do you remember.. the thread on the Revival? .. some time ago.
I gave my comments/response to you.
- You are giving/saying the same comment again..
---
* Find/search that thread and read it again.. (my comments/posts)
As I said on my post (the Revival thread)..
- Genuine revivals have been based on..scripture & prayer.
---
I had to make 2 comments/response to you on the Revival thread.
As I mentioned on that thread, I do not have time..
- To give/respond you 'with same comment/post' again.

Blessings,

It begins in the Word, prayerfully by the Spirit, right? (and not in vested ecclesiastical interests........)

@Pathfinder7 I have two books on Jonathan Edwards; he was associated strongly with the Great Awakening.

So was George Whitefield.

Also, I have a book about Asahel Littleton, associated with what was called the Second (Great) Awakening.

It's good to be able to look back and read about evidences of the Lord at work through His Word.

Watch the testimonies miraculous healing from the only 2 known survivors from the Azusa Street Revival of 1906-09.
The blind saw, the deaf heard, and people with terminal diseases were instantly healed! The building had a special place for all the crutches of the cripples who were healed. Foreigners heard their own languages spoken in tongues by people who had never learned those languages.

azusa street revival testimonies - Bing video

Bypassers called the fire department because of the supernatural glow inside the building. This reminds me of my own Spirit baptism at age 16 in a darkened amphitheater by Pelican Lake in Manitoba. I later asked one lady why she had sat staring at me as tongues gushed from my mouth. She replied, "Don't you know? Your face was glowing in the dark!" A Lutheran pastor who also sat, staring at me later approached to tell me he didn't believe in speaking in tongues and was there only as an interested spectator. I didn't argue with him; I just tapped him gently on the forehead and he just exploded in other tongues! I have described this experience in detail in my tongues thread.
