You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Because a very small part of the population is irresponsible with their weapons doesn't mean that the majority is too.

The responsible owners do not go on killing sprees. My own gun has seen the light of day since I got it maybe four or five times. My gun stays in a biometric safe where only I can access it. It has been out of the sage for me to go to a concealed weapons class and shoot at a gun range and my and my kid's birth certificates is in there along with their social security cards. I have had to go in there for those once or twice.

I say again, the majority of gun owners are responsible owners. You have an issue with the minority and that is where your anger should be.

The point is banning guns only affects law abiding citizens not those who are intent on killing people. If the constitution is violated to ban guns do you really believe they will stop there ? The next step would be the banning of free speech, peaceful assembly, due process. The only protection of any rights is the second amendment, which only a brain washed fool would willingly give up.
