“Micaiah said, ‘Therefore hear Yahweh’s word, I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. Yahweh said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.

A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’

Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’

He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’

He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.‘ Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”

Bringing that old chestnut out again Matthias?

2 Thessalonians 2:11: "Therefore God will send them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false..."

Literally, the phrase means “a working (Greek: energia) of error (Greek: plane).” This indicates more than just passive indifference to the truth it speaks of a divine, judicial action where God actively allows a misleading influence to take hold of those who reject Him. When people deliberately choose not to retain God in their knowledge, He may, by His own sovereign will, give them over to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:26, 28). This form of abandonment in lawlessness is seen in the example of Esau (Hebrews 12:15–17), as well as in other cases where God imposes judicial blindness (1 Kings 22:23; also see Romans 11:8 citing Isaiah 29:10; compare 2 Samuel 24:1 with 1 Chronicles 21:1; Exodus 9:12).

“So that they will believe the lie”

Note: it is “the” lie, not just any lie. In what is essentially a parallel passage, Paul speaks of those who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, choosing instead to worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator (Romans 1:25). This reflects a philosophy that enthrones man at the center of reality, displacing God from His rightful position, a deception that forms the root of all lies and errors.

This idea is directly related to the first recorded lie in Scripture, where the serpent cast doubt on God's word and character: “You shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). Nearly all false religions continue to perpetuate this very deception through the doctrine of the immortality of the soul, promising life without true submission to God, thereby echoing that original lie.

Once a person embraces a lie and builds their theological framework around it, there is often no turning back.

Yeah, its one spirit (which is singular) in the mouth of all his prophets (which are plural) same as below

2 Thes 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

2 Thes 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

The spirit of error here is delusion

1John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. (same word used in 2Thes 2:11 for delusion)

Surprised? Don't be...it's in perfect harmony with this:

2 Th 2:10-12
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness

So what is the lie, the delusion? It's the same old lie from the beginning slightly rephrased, for it says, "You shall prosper/prevail", (1Kings 22:12, and, "the LORD shall deliver Ramoth-Gilead into your hand"), which also strongly implies, "You shall not die". But what happened? the king died.

1 Kings 22:28-35 KJV
28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
34 And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel [Ahab] between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

The beginning of the Pauline passage in the quotes above, (re: strong delusion), appears to be referring the reader back to what is said of the prince of Tyre in Ezekiel the Prophet.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 KJV
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Ezekiel 28:1-2 KJV
1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:

Paul says, here

1 Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

But concerning these in 2 Thes 2:10, its because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2 Thes 2:10

And so what is left is 2 Thes 2:12 that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I read it as a smart aleck response from Micaiah to the false prophets and how they lie. Because God needs nothing to do His will.

Hello,

Yesterday I was sitting in a home group discussing Hebrews 1, and during the discussion I suggested that Jesus would rebuild the Temple in three days of the Lord in the future and the Pastor of the Church who was leading the home group became angry, because he claimed, that I was abandoning a good theological understanding that when Christ's body was resurrected after three days in the tomb, that his body then represented the rebuilt Temple that Christ had spoken about when He had cleansed the Temple courts of the people trading in sacrificial animals.

John 2:13-22: –– Jesus Cleanses the Temple
(Matt 21:12-17; Mark 11:15-19; Luke 19:45-48)
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!" 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up."
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"
19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days {of the Lord} I will raise it up."
20 Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
NKJV
However, what I read is that we, the body of Christ, will become the Temple of God, in around 3,000 years from when Christ spoke this truth, after the GWTR judgement.

This pastor also believes that the Parable of the Talents and the Parable of the Minas is all about Christ and His empowering of the Saints to evangelise the lost souls, whereas when Jeus told these two parables, He was speaking about what Satan would put in place to oppose the establishment of God's everlasting Kingdom while Satan is imprisoned in the Bottomless Pit for 1,000 years. Revelation 12 confirms this as it parallels the storyline of the Parable of the Minas.

There is a lying spirit working within the Church Body to distort God's truth from being understood. The people who present these lies, do so from a position of being a teacher, with the "ordained" authority to misrepresenting God's truths as found in scripture.

There are many on this forum who have heard the lying spirits within the church and repeat the lie not knowing that they too are spreading the lie.

Shalom

The acknowledging of the truth is after godliness

Titus 1
1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect,
and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness

2 Ti 2
25-26 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

I look at Jesus who the Apostles tell us is the full reflection of God's character.....and it was for this purpose that he came.....to clarify to us poor deluded peoples that God is not as most imagined him, ie one to be feared and appeased.

Whatever Micaiah encountered and we interpret, I do not believe that this is an accurate representation of the God I have come to know through Jesus. My trust is anchored in Jesus, not in Micaiah's encounter.

Could it be that 'the lying spirit' is in all of us at different times of our experience?

I know that what I fervently believed and shared in my younger years I no longer hold today in its entirety. I call it growth and I also call it a lack of discernment. What I have learned about my Saviour in the subsequent years, I did not know or understand in my younger years and much that I assumed I can now say even with embarrassment, that I had a 'lying spirit'.

When I consider the story of the Apostles and their growth in understanding, I think they experienced the same thing.
James and John were called 'Sons of Thunder' by Jesus at a particular junction and were happy to fry those who had a different experience (the Samaritans).
Peter, the self confident, cock-sure of himself denied Jesus thrice while a short time before he had sworn allegiance even to death......and when Jesus needed them most in his agony in the garden, they all slept and then abandoned him.

Discernment is what we need...even Micaiah......even in the face of visions, voices and cultural convictions.

Many have visions and hear voices of which they are convinced are from Yahweh but are they? We are to test the spirits.....and I would ask, what is the litmus test we use to determine accuracy?

Maybe an ignorant spirit

Taking a stand against a prophet of Yahweh is always wrong. Always.

It's true, many "feel" they hear or "hunch" their way but, it's not from God. If you hear God, it's like young Samuel the first time, in 1 Samuel. "Here I am", but after he knows it's the Lord, it's "speak Lord, for your servant hears you". There is always the first time, but you know you were spoken to, then the Lord will make it clear.
