The Mystery Behind The Name JESUS
So many misconceptions about the word 'Jesus' are plaguing the World Wide Web. What does the word 'Jesus' actually mean, given its first appearance in the NT scriptures of the Bible? The word 'Jesus' is one of the seven names given to the child born during Herod's time. God commanded that the child’s name be called Immanuel, the Mighty God, Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace, and Jesus (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 1:21). These names significantly reflect the Lord God's attributes and meanings. The holy thing that Mary will give birth to will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35).
And so the child was born and he was known to all as Jesus, which became prominent among the seven names. However, unknown to the Jews, the Son of God was the vessel of the Father [in coming] in the flesh (John 14:10-11) - the incarnation of God. The Father, whose said names are reflected in the child, used him (child) to communicate with humanity.
So, metaphorically speaking, the Son of God was essentially an empty vessel (John 14:10-11) in which the Almighty God, whose name is Jesus, dwelled, and then presented Himself (Almightty God) in human form (Son) on earth. He, the Son, was the physical body [created by the Holy Spirit, Luke 1:35] that moved and talked like an ordinary individual because the Almighty God was the Spirit and Life (John 14:10-11) within him. Once the Almighty God detached Himself from the Son's body, the latter died, just as humans die in the same way.
The mystery of the Father’s incarnation unfolded as the Father's name was revealed through that child when he grew up [as the man-named Jesus to whom the Father dwelled]. That man said to the Jews that Eternal Life is knowing the Father as (1) the only true God, and (2) Jesus Christ whom He has sent. Therefore, the Father’s name is Jesus Christ, which is the name that the Son declared (John 17:26) to the Jews.
Sadly, many still debate whether Jesus was both God and man, just a man, or one person of the Trinity.
