Did Jesus say He hated them? NO!!! He just said they are WICKED!

Better question: Why do you hate BILLIONS of humans that you admitted? Only Satan would lead you to all that hatred? Does Jesus hate you?
Jesus hates Satan, and He hated those whom He likened to Satan, and condemned to the abode of Satan.

He was obeying His own Word.

He didn't just liken them to Satan. He said they were devils and serpents. That's one of the biggest reveals in the Bible about the identity of Satan.

And I'm not talking about bloodlines or descent. I'm talking about what's in us. The serpent is human nature itself, the flesh. That's why Jesus could look at those men and call them what he did. He was naming what was operating in them.
So this applies to every one of us, myself included. That's the point.

That would make Jesus the serpent as well and that is clearly wrong. This is devil/satan denial which seeks to deny the true identity of satan and make "him" only an aspect of us.

The serpent on the pole in Numbers was a picture of Jesus wasn’t it? Why did God use a serpent to represent Jesus? What was God showing there?

That was a saraph not a serpent as satan is in a symbolic sense.

Why do you keep repeating that lie? To please your religion of HATE maybe?

That was a saraph not a serpent as satan is in a symbolic sense.
I looked into that and I don't think the distinction holds up, though I appreciate you making me check.

Verse 8 does say saraph, but verse 9 turns right around and calls what Moses made a nechash nechoshet, a serpent of bronze. Same object, both words. And back in verse 6 the two appear together as nechashim seraphim, fiery serpents, where saraph is describing what kind of serpents they were rather than naming a different creature.

Then Jesus settles it in John 3:14 when he says "as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness." The Greek there is ophis, the ordinary word for serpent, and it's the same word used in Revelation 12:9 for "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan."

So the text itself uses both words for the same thing, and Jesus called it a serpent. Which brings me back to what I was actually asking. Why did God have Moses use a serpent to represent Jesus on the cross.

The answer to me is obvious. The serpent represents human DNA.

The command was to make a saraph. Perhaps Moses' interpretation was not exact to the command. Either way, what was intended was something positive and heavenly, not something representing the enemy and evil. Therefore, the serpent of the garden, the sinful tempter, is satan a fallen angel not the human body God made on the 6th day which He called Good in Genesis. satan also existed prior to that day.

The original language uses saraph. The Greek language is secondary here.

He commanded a saraph which is not representative of the enemy serpent.

It does not. The serpent represents satan, a sneaky and dangerous person. Serpents could be deadly and they were hard to notice and many people get bit by them. They bite human flesh, not are human flesh. The serpent satan is an external force that can harm humans and their bodies.

You said the Greek is secondary here. I'd say John 3:14 isn't a secondary witness to Numbers, it's Jesus commenting on the event in his own words. And the word he used was ophis, the ordinary word for serpent, the same one used in Revelation 12:9 for that old serpent, the Devil and Satan.

No matter how you slice it, Jesus testified that the serpent on the pole somehow represented himself on the cross. That's his own comparison, not mine.

So the question I keep coming back to is why a serpent. And the serpent being a fallen angel doesn't work here. Nobody was healed by looking at a fallen angel lifted up on a pole. The image was of the very thing that was killing them, and yet looking at that image is what saved them from the bites. The cure was in the likeness of the affliction, lifted up. That's what Jesus said was a picture of him on the cross.

And it doesn't sit alone. He called men a brood of vipers, told them they were of their father the devil, and said "get thee behind me, Satan" to Peter, one of his own apostles. Nobody thought Peter was demon possessed. Jesus was naming what was speaking through him, the flesh, meaning human nature, the sin nature in every one of us. And he said as much in the next breath: "thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."

He used a different language that may not have an equivalent to the Hebrew word God used. "serpent" is ok as long as one understands what kind of serpent, a Saraph. I believe they have 6 wings? No "snake" has wings.

Isaiah 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

I think that was to indicate the serpent on the pole wasn’t a normal earthly serpent.

Yes, so no direct relation between the Saraph on the pole and satan the garden serpent. The serpent in the garden was not Adam's body, but a separate creature so the flesh is not the serpent either.

Correct but Jesus was no ordinary man either. We disagree but thank you for the civil dialogue.
