You'll find them in particular among Left leaning Christians, those who say they oppose abortion but believe that the law shouldn't be changed. It's the reason that even though poll after poll shows a slight majority of Americans oppose abortion, there is never any serious move to end abortion on demand.

This phenomenon isn't new in American history. Most people also opposed slavery, but few sainted abolitionists were actually trying to end it by law. Most people would acquiesce to slavery by saying it's an unretractable part of our culture. Slavery was abolished not because of, but in spite of, all the fakers saying they opposed it.

Logic would inform us that anyone who truly believes that abortion is murder, the unjust taking of innocent life, would not rest until it's ended by law. In the Christian world-view, government is charged with the responsibility to protect innocent life. Our true convictions are betrayed by our actions and when we act in such a way as to ensure that abortion keeps happening, we facilitate and accommodate it, even those who errantly absolve themselves of all involvement in it.

Scarce and few these days are those who hear the screaming of the slaughtered unborn, like the blood of Abel, unjustly shed, that screamed in protest, knowing that God, and God's elect will hear that scream. Those of us who understand abortion for what it really is don't vote for pro abortion politicians. We don't dismiss the issue as unresolvable, nor do we give up fighting for the day when the unborn are protected by social policy. We stand between the innocent and the evil that seeks to destroy it. We will never be like the fakers who will one day give a rueful account before the Almighty for their indifference and inaction.

And IMO it's about time we start calling the fakers for what they really are, pro-abortionists with their hands dipped in blood.

True. But the sad thing is that the people don't run the government. Big corporations and the people with the money run the government, and it is of no interest to them to change the laws.

Secondly, most Christians that are for abortions are women, because they mistakenly think they have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies. It's like a repeating parrot that just squawks out the words without knowing what they are talking about. No one has the right to do anything with their body. Ironically, Christian women should know this. If they believe in God, they believe they cannot fornicate with their bodies, or be lesbians with their bodies, or numerous other things.

Anyway, the fact is that it takes a huge sum of money to change the laws and unless churches band together and rid this plague from our society, it wont happen.

I agree. There's no difference with what is going on today and what went on with the Nazi's shipping off all the Jews, gypsies etc. off to the gas chambers and ovens. However, changing the law won't stop it from happening. It might cut down the numbers some. I've seen some legislation stating that abortions would be allowed only if the mother's life was in danger. This would result in over a million pregnant woman a year claiming that their lives were in danger.

We really haven't abolished slavery either. Prior to the abolition of slavery there were plenty of people who would have given their right arms to be working on a plantation as a slave. Today, instead of having our meals, clothes, shelter provided for us, the slave has to supply his own food, clothes, etc. as well as transportation to and from work, as well as medical care/insurance etc.

Under the Mosaic law slaves were given the option to leave when their period of servitude was ended. They could also remain with their master. This was because they liked the way they were being treated. Many employers and people in supervisory positions today treat their employees with contempt and abuse. So wouldn't one rather be a well treated slave than free and treated with contempt and abuse?

Societies can change their laws, but this will never change or transform one depraved heart.

I usually get the opinion highlighted in the OP from gutless men who have bought into the lie that abortion is a women's issue and that opposing abortion is "anti-woman". There's really no such thing as a personal choice when it comes to the life of a human being that has not only a mother, but a father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings; an entire community that is robbed when its life is snuffed out.

But in regard to your larger point, I would submit that the Roman government was far more corrupt than anything we have today, and yet Christian protest actually brought an end to the horrific gladiator events. Some Christians even stepped into the arena to protest it at the cost of their very lives. Eventually interest in the events diminished and the practice was retired. At no point should we throw up our hands in despair, thinking we can't change the system. We serve a great God!
