The Strait Gate

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. - Matthew 7:13-14

I am bad about misidentifying and confusing words such as ...

Altar - A place to pray
Alter - To change something

So therefore I pause to make sure I do not confuse these words....

Straight - As a line
Strait - A narrow way

I often think of an airline terminal where you have to enter in security and be checked out. If you have anything considered offensive you will have to leave that behind. This is similar to the way to heaven... You must leave things behind to enter in.

In the Eisenhower Locks, a small canal leading to the Great Lakes from the St Lawrence Seaway, the way is strait, in which the ship pictured below looks like it is just inches from making it.

Strait in the Greek is "stenos" with the contextual translation being "Narrow" in that passage.

You can't take much into heaven. It is pretty strict 'airport security'!

The way to the Christ is a strait and a narrow way. To enter it you must leave things behind. Kind of like going through airport security where there are limited things you must take with you. I can see a fat guy trying to get through with his buttons popping off his vest as he is pushing his way through.
