That’s a good question!
I think they were innocent of any wrongdoing but were not immortal - yet. They would have had to eat from the tree to have eternal life in themselves. God said: New Living Translation
Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!”

So God blocked the way to the tree.

I also think the tree of life was Jesus, because He is eternal life. I am the way, the truth and the life.

What are your thoughts on it?

They were sinless at creation but NOT immortal. God already anticipated their disobedience and their mortality. Therefore they were driven out of Eden and barred from the Tree of Life.
Exactly . Cause even GOD said , Lest they eat of the tree and live forever . Isnt that something
the tree of life was in the garden the whole time and yet ...........they ate of the wrong tree .
They were never told EAT NOT of the tree of life . ONLY eat not of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil .
YOUR right , they were not created immortal . The tree of life would have made them immortal , SO GOD cast them OUT of said
garden LEST THEY DID EAT OF IT . GOOD NEWS . He who eats of JESUS flesh and drinketh of the water of life
SHALL NEVER DIE . We are immortal in Christ . Our bodies can die , BUT NOT THE SOUL . IT LIVES FOREVER BECAUSE OF CHRIST .
Now dance a jig of praise unto the glorious LORD .

No. the Tree of Life might have been symbolic of Jesus, but was definitely NOT Jesus. How do we know this? Because the Tree of Life is presently in the Paradise of God, and its leaves are for "the healing of the nations" (Rev 22:2). It also bears 12 kinds of fruit, a different one for each month. The Bible does not tell us what the fruit will accomplish.

If we had eaten of the tree of life after sinning. We would have to live forever in those sins as Christ was not to appear for 4000yrs. Mortal death then allowed for us thru Christ to return to God. This is as Paul states we lived the law unto ourselves. I would call that conscience. To life doing whats right without the knowledge of a savior

The wages of sin is death?

you will be with me in paradise?

what do you think the leaves they covered themselves with in the garden mean…what kind of works? are they just leaves? How strange “put on the New Man” created after Christ. “Not that we will be unclothed but clothed upon” …what is for the healing of the nations? Why does He say “turn to Me, and be healed” Consider
Isaiah 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Correct. But there was no experience of death before it. They were covered. But they lost their covering and then it became apparent they didn’t have eternal life IN themselves but had a covering, a protection.

A very sick making thing pops up here. You were the anointed cherub who covers…

Something else too, but I can’t quite grasp it. I see it but I don’t understand what I am seeing…the son who uncovered the fathers nakedness. (Story of Noah.)

now in the morning, when he was returning to the city, He became hungry.

Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it, except leaves only, and He said to it “No longer shall there ever be [any] fruit from you” and at once the fig tree withered.

So here Jesus walks, becomes hungry and sees a fig tree with leaves …but no fruit. He curses it and it withers. What a contrast to the man who was stripped of his clothing, wounded and left half dead.
Luke 10:31-37.

sticking to leaves as actual leaves, and fruit as actual fruit…with all due respect sucks the breath out of why when Jesus was hungry, He cursed the fig tree when there were leaves, but no fruit.
(Imo) tells who bears Fruit and since the Tree of Life is the topic, what Fruit bears Life? A Tree producing seed of Him? Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

I’m dimly seeing a connection in the leaves they covered themselves with in the garden…and God cursed them. Trees with leaves that could then bear no fruit…

Makes me think of …I don’t think it is talking about literal drunkenness but instead tempting a neighbor so you can prove how rotten he is, so you can glory in that neighborhoods rottenness to overshadow your own rottennesses thinking if every one is looking at his shame…then you can continue to be just as you were… convinced you got everyone deceived. It happens all the time (imo) if you really take a look around: leveling others before men to make ourselves appear better. But God sees, yea?
Habakkuk 2:15-16 Woe unto him that gives his neighbour drink, that puts your bottle to him, and make him drunk also, that you may look on their nakedness! [16] You are filled with shame for glory: drink you also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the Lord's right hand shall be turned unto you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory.

“Trees with leaves that could then bear no fruit” makes me think of ‘Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, [2] Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: [3] All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not you after their works: for they say, and do not. [4] For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. [5] But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,’ Matthew 23:1-5

Absolutely. Oh my gosh, absolutely. This is what narcissism is and does. And I’m not talking about overt narcissism, we wouldn’t be caught DEAD in THAT! It’s done covertly, passive aggressively, within the limits of plausible deniability, so one can daintily wipe their mouth and declare, no one has caught me cheating!!

It’s satan. Your description is satan. It has taken me a very long time to begin to understand it’s satan working through us, through manipulation of our outer man.

That saying, but not doing what you say, is what Paul said he knew could disqualify him.

He cursed the fig tree when there were leaves, but no fruit.
Not relevant to the Tree of Life. We must take what is written literally. So for the Tree of Life both the fruit and the leaves have supernatural properties.

Getting back to the cursing of the fig tree, the Bible says that the season for fruit was not there as yet. So it is a little puzzling as to why Jesus expected fruit. Got Questions says that when the fig tree had leaves it meant that the fruit was also there. But the real reason was to teach the apostles a lesson in faith.

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (Mk 11:24)

If Adam and Eve were sinless and thus immortal, why was the Tree of Life with them in the Garden of Eden?
Contrary to many replies, I believe they were immortal because death and sin were a result of the fall.

Romans 5:12

I also believe the Tree of Life was/is Jesus due to the Revelation 22:14 verse which depicts Jesus as the proper gate into the sheep pen by which one must enter in order to be accepted into heaven.

If they were immortal, God could not have said to them, on the day you eat of it you will die. Immortal means you can’t die.
