No, the law never said to hate your enemy. I think that came from a misunderstanding of 2 Chronicles 19:2. The law does instruct us to love our enemies, so no change of law here:

"4If you encounter your enemy’s stray ox or donkey, you must return it to him.5If you see the donkey of one who hates you fallen under its load, do not leave it there; you must help him with it." Exodus 23:4-5
So, you see, Jesus was not changing the law and raising the bar of righteousness that way. What Jesus was doing was making the Pharisees see that they were not the righteous law keepers they thought they were. They excelled in the outward stuff, but failed miserably at the inner stuff - inner stuff that was also included in the law that they were so sure they kept. Jesus is telling us we have to keep all the law in order to have the righteousness that surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law.

So your saying Jesus did not know what he was talking about in Mat 5:43 That He misunderstood 2 Chronicles 19:2 when he made this statement ?
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

This reminds me of John Calvin a theologian. He thought he knew better too… kinda like you and your statement about Jesus being mistaken about the Law…

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Acts 1:6 (ESV)

As part of Calvin’s commentary on this verse he writes:

He showeth that the apostles were gathered together when as this question was moved, that we may know that it came not of the foolishness of one or two that it was moved, but it was moved by the common consent of them all; but marvelous is their rudeness, that when as they had been diligently instructed by the space of three whole years, they betray no less ignorance than if they had heard never a word. There are as many errors in this question as words.

Hey, Maybe you and Mr Calvin know better than Jesus and his apostles?

Calvin was the ignorant one.

That Jesus will rule a literal, physical, and unending kingdom, ruling on Davids throne, from Jerusalem, is prophesied in Isaiah and Luke, for only two of many scriptures on that.

All the Jews knew that, including the apostles.
