21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Romans 8:1-2
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

8:9
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

We are to stay in the Spirit, never quenching or grieving the Spirit. Endure to the end and you will be saved.

Here's what Paul actually wrote to these Christians whom he calls carnal:

6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

God lets them know that He Himself will confirm them unto the end, that they may be blameless in that day.

Much like in Thessalonians,

19 Quench not the Spirit.
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Sanctification is from God, and He is faithful to what He promises.

Much love!

If they did all these things from the start, Paul wouldn't have had to be so critical. Why was Paul so cross if they weren't jeopardizing their salvation??? By the second letter, they had repented, and Paul said their repentance lead to their salvation.

I don't understand your question.

Before all the criticisms of what they were doing . . .

6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

. . . he assured them that Jesus Himself would "confirm you unto the end, that you may be blameless" in that day. And that God is faithful.

After this assurance God instructs and admonishes His people.

Much love!

Who is the old man, and who is the new man, and what does it mean to put off the old man, and put on the new man? What does it mean that the new man is created patterned after God in righteousness and true holiness? Eph 4:23-24

Much love!

2 Peter 1:2-11
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Every apostles encourages their congregations to be sinless, and then to go on to perfection. That is what Christ taught, and that is what the apostles taught. He's given us His Spirit to accomplish what He started in us, so let's walk in the Spirit, and not worry about the flesh. Reckon it dead and gone, and be righteous.

This "handwriting", cheirographon, it turns out this word was used for a promissory note. If you took on a debt, borrowed some money, opened a charge account at the market, you would give them your handwriting as your proof of indebtedness. The NASB translates as "certificate of debt".

Paul shows this in Philemon, as he says, if he owes you anything charge it to me, see, I've written in my own hand. Paul dictated his letters normally, so this was an insertion in the letter where he gave Philemon his cheirographon.

God wiped clean our certificate of debt by nailing it to the cross. He became sin, who knew no sin . . .

Much love!

Yes, our PAST sins were nailed to the cross. 2 Peter 1:9

Don't use one verse to remove the meaning from another verse. They all work together.

Our record of debt, plain and simple. No more indebtedness.

I think that grace is God's unearned gift to man of Christ Himself. I think that charis describes the indescribable blessedness of Christ in me. Our rejoicing is in the certainty of this truth.

Much love!

Yes, I agree, and Christ is sinless. The power of His Spirit in us causes our actions to be sinless also. Without holiness, no man shall see God.

What were they doing? Trespasses against each other. There was only one person that was committing a sin unto death, and they were told to excommunicate them out of their midst, even turning him over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh (not body, but to be shunned so he would truly repent and be reborn, which he did by the second letter from Paul.) We've talked about this. But there is a condition in the case of trespasses. We must be reconciled to one another. Forgive each other. Don't take each other to court, etc.

We have been given the Holy Spirit to cause us to be dead to sin. All our past sins are cleansed. There is no more debt. Period.

Agreed sister,
The Corinth Church were quite carnal! Like, crazy carnal. Worse than unbelievers!
Paul seems to come on at first, with the soft stuff and then he get's down to the nitty- gritty with them, yes.

Chapter 7:13-16 "And if a believing woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to continue living with her, she must not leave him. 14For the believing wife brings holiness to her marriage, and the believing husband brings holiness to his marriage. Otherwise, your children would not be holy, but now they are holy. 15(But if the husband or wife who isn’t a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the believing husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.) 16 Don’t you wives realize that your husbands might be saved because of you? And don’t you husbands realize that your wives might be saved because of you?"

These verses hold much meaning to me personally. My mom was a believer, my dad was not so much. When my mom was in the hospital, close to death...she had said something that always made these verses come alive to me. "Honey, I'm ready to go home, I finished what the Lord wanted me to do, and your father is with Him now." My dad had died 28 days before my mother, they were young.
Off topic there...sorry
@Nancy What a testimony to pass into the presence of the Lord peacefully. :) "Absent from the body","present with the Lord". (2 Corinthians 5.8)

Porn is images. That’s not the issue. The issue is lusting. All men lust. Some less than others. Some more than others. Any man who claims to not lust is not only lusting, but is also lying. God designed males to look at women. That guarantees the survival of the human species. So forget the small percentage of leaders that lust, and worry about the the remaining percent that lie about not lusting. Also, don’t pick on leaders, they are humans like the rest of us. The bigger concern that you should have is why leaders are lusting? Aren’t they married? Are their wives being wives to there husbands? Are they being 50/50 wives or 100% wives? Many wives, of both leaders and of church member husbands are suffering from daddy issues. This prevents them from being able to fully love them husbands and express it. Read the book “Women And Their Fathers” by Victoria Secunda. You can be healed of your daddy issues.
