You ever heard the saying you can take the peoples outta the harlot , but not the harlot outta the peoples .The entirety of Protestantism came from the rejection of Popery, all the reformers beginning from Martin Luther and John Calvin rejected the formal teaching of the popes doctrines. Have you read Luther and Calvin and Zwingli? Those 3 were the influential reformers for the church. God changes times and seasons. And it cost a lot in blood and suffering, but that is also the way of biblical history.
Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli — Key Figures of the Protestant Reformation
Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Calvin were three of the most influential reformers of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation, each with distinct theological emphases and reform agendas.
Martin Luther (1483–1546)
Born in Eisleben, Germany, Luther was initially trained in law but entered the Augustinian monastery in 1506. His 1517 Ninety-Five Theses challenged the sale of indulgences. A pivotal moment came in 1515–1516, when he read Romans 1:17 and concluded that salvation comes by faith alone (sola fide), not by works. Luther emphasized Scripture (sola scriptura) and the authority of the Gospel, rejecting the idea that reform could be achieved through political force Introduction to Protestantism+1. He also developed a sacramental theology in which the Eucharist was the real presence of Christ “in, with, and under” the bread and wine Wikipedia.
Ulrich Zwingli (1484–1531)
A Swiss reformer from Zurich, Zwingli was trained in Thomistic theology and influenced by Erasmus’ humanist approach. He led a radical reform in Zurich, ending the Mass, abolishing the papacy, and closing monasteries thechrist-centeredlife.com+1. Zwingli believed revelation and reason could never contradict, and he used political means to implement reform. He rejected the Eucharist as a sacrifice and taught that Christ was present spiritually, not physically, in the bread and wine Lutheran Reformation+1. His views clashed with Luther’s on the Real Presence, leading to the Marburg Colloquy in 1529, which failed to unite them Wikipedia.
John Calvin (1509–1564)
Calvin, a French theologian trained as a lawyer, became a pastor and professor in Geneva. He was deeply influenced by medieval theology and Christian humanism. His Institutes of the Christian Religion (1536) systematized Reformed theology, emphasizing God’s sovereignty, the authority of Scripture, and the importance of church order and discipline thechrist-centeredlife.com. Calvin sought to continue the work of Luther and other reformers, shaping both theology and community life in Geneva. He also contributed to the debate on sacraments, affirming the Eucharist as a spiritual means of grace Colin D Smith.
Theological and Historical Context
All three were initially loyal Catholics but became reformers in response to abuses and doctrinal errors. They shared a commitment to Scripture and reform, but differed on sacramental theology, the role of reason in faith, and the use of political power in reform Colin D Smith+1. Luther and Zwingli’s disagreement over the Eucharist at the Marburg Colloquy (1529) highlighted these differences, while Calvin’s work in Geneva influenced later Reformed traditions in Europe and beyond thechrist-centeredlife.com+1.
In summary, Luther emphasized faith and the Gospel as the sole means of reform, Zwingli combined reform with political action and a rationalist approach to Scripture, and Calvin integrated theology, church order, and community life into a systematic Reformed framework.
I would not heed zwingli or calvin . And not quite all that even luther taught .
Though of the three luther would have been the better choice .
me thinks the anabaptists were far more accurate . Though of course there were bad seeds in them as well .
You see calvin thought he could take the popes outta himself and the people
ONLY the pope never left calvin fully . That man made a church state that i would not have sat under .
And zwingli was not but a short stones throw away from that mess .
O H you can take the girl outta the trailer park but often not the trailer park outta the girl my friend .
Might i suggest a whole new strategy for us all . Its known as OBRBFY . rather odd acroymn .
So allow me to spell it out for all . OPEN BIBLE READ BIBLE FOR YOURSELVES . and quickly too .
WE in a heap of mess and specially in these very very late and very last hours upon earth . and believe me
I DO MEAN LATE and I DO MEAN LAST hours too .
