Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.

The angel said nothing about Mary to remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus, but scripture testified that Joseph knew Mary intimately after the birth of Jesus, meaning he had sex with his wife. We see this in reference to Adam in the O.T. in regards to Cain & later, Seth.

Genesis 4:1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

Genesis 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

Some of the children of Mary were named when Jesus came into His own country & at the cross.

Matthew 13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Now some may take the above verses as saying that it did not really say that Jesus's mother was the mother of His brethren & sisters, but we go to the cross for that confirmation.

Matthew 27:55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him. 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

    Mark 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

So Matthew 27:56 & Mark 15:40 proves that Mary was the mother of James & Joses and other children and not just Jesus in Matthew 13:54.

Also, when Joseph fled with Mary & the child, Jesus, into Egypt, no other children were present. When they had to register for the census, again, no other children were present. When they had to hide from Herod's son, they moved where Jesus was known as a Nazarene. So the children of Mary were born after Jesus was born in Jesus's country.

Joseph married Mary for the purpose of building a family. If Mary was to remain a virgin, the angel would have said so plainly and let Joseph put her away privately. The whole point of marriage is the two shall become one flesh. God would not perform that marriage if Mary was to remain a virgin, because that would go back on His word for what marriage is about.

Mary was a good wife to Joseph and not just a good mother to Jesus, but to her other children as well.

So it is a false teaching, a false witness of Mary, and a lie for saying the virgin Mary remained a virgin after marrying Joseph.

Addressing the OP, Mary is not a virgin, ... anymore, in the natural sense. for she had other children after christ with her husband Joseph. the verse you quoted was correct, Matthew 1:24 "Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: verse 25 "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS".

and she is not blessed above other women, but among women, just like any other woman. Luke 1:26 "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, verse 27 "To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. verse 28 "And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women". not "above", but blessed "among" women.

among is true but you forget: Hail, "thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee" part of that verse.

I certainly don't go around worshiping the "Virgin Mary" claiming her "Queen of Heaven" or any Catholicism views on such, or something of that nature. but if Gabriel says she is highly favored, then she is highly favored in eyes and judgement of the Lord God Almighty, of which most women if not the rest of women can't claim nor did the Lord send an angle to claim, that the rest of the world would know it, that it's God proclamation of her.

so amongst women she's up there in rank an relationship with the Lord God of Israel of which no other women in scripture is perceived to be closer or more blessed in the eyes of the Lord.

One may say the angel was explaining the why or how she was favoured and that was to bear the Son of the living God as explained in verses 31-33. She was troubled by that salutation in verse 29. It may be read that the angel was answering the question in her mind.

Luke 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Joseph received no such salutations about Mary to be taken in any other way other than she is with child by the Holy Ghost. Since Mary is going to be with child, and yet still a virgin, I would tend to believe that this salutation was necessary to put her at ease when the pregnancy comes.

You will not change any Catholic's mind, so why even go there?

I am not looking to myself to do that; it is on God to cause the increase. Only He can open their eyes to the truth in His words. He may very well recover some from the snares of the Catholic Church and the works of Catholicism too.

there's explanation, and angle coming from the Presence of the Most High states only what the Most High states. therefore of God, its true. God's Judgement counts and stands forever, not man's. God doesn't say what He doesn't mean. if God says it its a fact, not a feel good.

Wouldn't the angel say the same thing in a dream to Joseph or not? That is why I believe the salutations was to put her mind at ease for when she find herself pregnant. Can you imagine what would go through her mind if there was no visit from the angel to announce that pregnancy?

Those indoctrinated to see otherwise what scripture plainly testifies of, may not see it, or rather, may care not to see it.

Fascinating how Luke's account varies from That of Isaiah:

"Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever." Isaiah 9:7

To me, that means that procreation will continue forever!!

Mary the mother of Jesus was not a perpetual virgin. She was a normal married woman and had other children after Jesus who as the bible says was her firstborn.

    Matthew 12:46-47
    Jesus’ mother and brothers

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.’

    Mark 3:31-32

Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting round him, and they told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.’

    Luke 8:19-20
    Jesus’ mother and brothers

Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. Someone told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.’

Three of the gospels have this account so how can anyone doubt that Jesus had brothers?

Also Mary would not have been a good wife to Joseph if she had not done her wifely duty and produced children for him.

Why does this topic arise on every forum I've ever been on? Probably because the Catholic Church have idolised Mary and made her something she never was i.e. a perpetual virgin who didn't have normal relationship with her husband.

I can almost see your point of application, but comparing the two verses, I lean towards the meaning as there will be no end to His reign unlike other rulers on earth.

But in according to my point of view, even though the firstfruits of the resurrection will be like the angels that never die nor given in marriage, those that are Christ's at His coming in being resurrected after the great tribulation, will be procreating during the millennium reign of Christ.

I am not sure what will happen once death and hades and everybody not written in the Book of Life are cast into the lake of fire other than immortality for the remaining earth inhabitants when Jesus gives back the kingdom to the Father. I do not know if procreation will continue for them or not once the kingdom goes to the Father, but His words remains true in that there is no end to His government and His peace is forever.

But since we all prophesy in part and know in part, I am sure we will know for sure one day what happens when the Son gives back the Kingdom to the Father if the remaining inhabitants of earth will continue to procreate or not. I can imagine going Star Trek in populating other worlds for the expanding population. I suspect that is why there will be no longer any sea in this new heaven and hew earth to make room for a reign of no wars and diseases, but once death has been done away with, will the procreation stop or will the Father permit the expansion of the population to the stars?

We shall find out one day.

Procreation has been one of the greatest joys I have experienced here on earth, not only the process <grin>, but the end result. I like to think that eternity will be much better than it has been on earth.

what does what the Lord have to say to Joseph have anything to do with Mary's statues amongst women in God's sight, of which God made sure not only she knew but also the world? take note, you have heard and so has the world.

Maybe I just heard differently for why Joseph was not to elevate her above women either but consider her as blessed among women for bearing the Christ child, and because of that, the spotlight has always been on Jesus Christ in scripture in seeking His glory rather than any other's glory.

You had pointed out that she was blessed among women and I believe that was why she was to be considered blessed among women, because of the Christ child.

First thanks for the reply, second, we all are highly favoured, as a matter of fact, the apple of his Eye, Zechariah 2:8 "For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye." and he made it very clear, Matthew 25:45 "Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me".

The phrase apple of my eye refers in English today to something or someone that one cherishes above all others.

    and "cherishes" means values greatly.

Matthew 1:25 "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS".

and the apostle paul clear up the matter, Galatians 1:19 "But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother".
    he identified him by name.

Mary did not have any children other than Jesus and there is not a single verse in the bible that says she did.
    And nobody has produced one.

Quoting verses that do not say she had other children is not evidence that she did.
