Were there thorns and thistles before the fall of Adam?

Probably not. Before the Fall, nature was in harmony. There were species that were the progenitors of thorns and thistles. When God cursed the ground, these species mutated to produce thorns and thistles to protect themselves against some animals. This signifies the beginning of the struggle between plant and animal life.
