What are some of your thoughts on this?

Paul equated the term "babes in Christ" with carnality, characterized by "envying, and strife, and divisions". Lets look at 1 Corinthians 3:1-3: "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

Please share, love to you,
Matthew

I think the more immature in Christ, that means the more fleshy you are. Maturing in Christ is overcoming the flesh, as I see it.

Much love!

And can that happen at conversion like we read in Acts 2 when they were all in one accord ? It seems they were living and walking in the spirit and not the flesh.

Are you asking me if one might completely overcome their flesh at their conversion?

For myself I see it as a matter of consistency. If we walk in the Spirit we won't fulfill our fleshy lusts. The question is, how consistently do we walk in the Spirit?

And as our minds are renewed, we find ourselves less frequently caught up in the fleshiness. I think we can be "in one accord" with believers at a certain time, and at another time find ourselves doing what we shouldn't, even justifying it to ourselves as something good.

And then there is another question, How do you know when you are walking in the Spirit?

@MatthewG , A question for you . . . what does Christian maturity look like? How can I tell the difference between mature in Christ and having a good disposition? Being in a good mood?

Much love!

How do I know? I'm not seeking after the flesh and its desires as per Galatians 5 describes. The fruit of the spirit is evident.

How do you tell ?

Hello Marks

That is a very good question, maybe will answer that at some point but not now.
How can I tell the difference between mature in Christ and having a good disposition?
There were some key factors in the first original post.
Being in a good mood?
I don't think it's always about being in a good mood or feeling good, or being in a good position (disposition?) in life (by the flesh) exactly.
Much love!
Love to you in Christ,
Matthew

Simple, time, faithfulness and studying the word.

Babies in the faith like the real world are not required for much. As we grow our responsibiliytes and abilities grow, that is also true in the faith.

To be a Babe in Christ means to be a new believer who has just been born again and is still learning the basics of the Christian faith. To grow into a Mature Adult in Christ means to continue to grow in one's faith, deepen one's relationship with God, and become more Christlike in character through the power of the Holy Spirit. It involves studying and applying the teachings of Jesus, serving others, and persevering in the face of trials and challenges.

Here is a example of growth of tree. There are different seasons which they go dormant sometimes.

Matthew 13

New Living Translation

Parable of the Farmer Scattering Seed

13 Later that same day Jesus left the house and sat beside the lake. 2 A large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat there and taught as the people stood on the shore. 3 He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. 4 As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. 5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! 9 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
10 His disciples came and asked him, “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”
11 He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets[a] of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. 12 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. 13 That is why I use these parables,
For they look, but they don’t really see.
They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.
14 This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says,
‘When you hear what I say,
you will not understand.
When you see what I do,
you will not comprehend.
15 For the hearts of these people are hardened,
and their ears cannot hear,
and they have closed their eyes—
so their eyes cannot see,
and their ears cannot hear,
and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
and let me heal them.’[b]
16 “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.
18 “Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: 19 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. 20 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 21 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. 23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

I think you touched on the key and the heart of the matter. Jesus said that He did not come to be served but to serve. Serving others and not self is key. Love is not about you its about the other person and looking out for their needs and interests and putting them above your own. This takes humility and strips one of pride. Being a servant is a place of humility caring for the needs of others. Its denying oneself as Jesus taught was the first step in being His disciple/follower.

So do some come to the Lord as babies and remain babies all of their lives? Can a person's growth toward maturity in Christ be stunted? Does this relate to the quenching of the Holy Spirit within us?
At what point, if any, during a person's life in carnal flesh will his growth be complete?

How perfect and knowledgeable and great is our God? How close are we to Him? What is the limit [if there is one] to our becoming like Him?

Very good questions for us all to consider, Amadeus!

Another question is, can one live contently in where they are in their faith, or do they desire to know more, to move closer?

Romans 12:1-5

New International Version

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

all in love,
Matthew

as Paul said in Timothy, find faithful people that you may pass on the truth to. Evangelize, minister, use your gift(s) to edify the church, grow in prayer and Study, study, study.

As believers we have 3 responsibilities to the Scriptures, preserve, protect, and pass on.

The church today is plagued by opinions and commentary when we should be more involved in passing the Word on without opinion.

Yes, but where in the end does this leave them with God?
Can a person's growth toward maturity in Christ be stunted?
Yes, and I believe that to be stunted unto the end of a person's course [allotted time as a man of flesh] is to in effect choose death instead of Life. How long can a person remain on the fence?

Jas 1:8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Does this relate to the quenching of the Holy Spirit within us?
At what point, if any, during a person's life in carnal flesh will his growth be complete?
I believe that a person must continue to strive and to growth toward God while he has time left to him. Alone he cannot make it. I if he does not continue to strive and to surrender the Holy Spirit will not take up the slack. His growth toward God is complete only when he runs out of time.

How perfect and knowledgeable and great is our God?
He is unlimited in Himself.
How close are we to Him? What is the limit [if there is one] to our becoming like Him?
Our limit is according to what, if anything, we do with what we have received and what we will receive while time remains to us: Much is given; much is required!

Lu 12:48But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more
