What exactly is ''resting'' on the Sabbath as to keeping it 'Holy'?

I believe Hebrews re-enforces the physical day of rest, but its never been only physical- just as Jesus magnified the law Isa42:21 and showed examples of it lust with adultery, anger with murder which was always His true intent, obedience from the heart, its the same with the Sabbath, but not in a way that its no longer being kept the way God said.

For example in Hebrews 4 we are told:

“For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”” — Hebrews 4:4 (NKJV)

So its not just spiritual God rested on the seventh day from all His works and this passage is quoting the 4th commandment that God spoke in this way of the seventh day Exo20:8-11

And we see by verse 10 there are two rests in this passage, not one.

“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His” — Hebrews 4:10 (NKJV)

Those who enter Christ's rest also, which means in addition, they also cease from their works as God did. When did God cease from His works? Only one day and this very passage re-enforces this:

“For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works


Those resting in Christ also rest from the physical day the seventh day as Christ did from all their works- they rest from their works Exo20:10 to keep the Sabbath day holy, its a day of holy communion with God and our fellow man. Exo20:8-11 Lev23:3 Isa58:13 Luke 4:16 Acts 13:44 Acts 15:21 Isa66:23 etc

Why the Sabbath-rest remains for the people of God as shown in verse 9

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God” — Hebrews 4:9

and the rest in this verse literally means keeping the Sabbath

God is calling His people out of this system:

And back to worship the God of Creation

“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it” — Exodus 20:11 (NKJV)

Since I know of no other church than the SDA's who gather on Saturdays, what does one do then? House gatherings? I will look into this further before responding, thank you!

The Sabbath is a holy convocation i.e. assembly church so we meet at church but many with invite people over after church for more bible studies and fellowship.

“‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings” — Leviticus 23:3 (NKJV)

And we see this in the life of Jesus

“So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read” — Luke 4:16 (NKJV)

And the apostles

“Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures” — Acts 17:2 (NKJV)

“So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath” — Acts 13:42 (NKJV)

“On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God” — Acts 13:44 (NKJV)

“For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”” — Acts 15:21 (NKJV)

“And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks” — Acts 18:4 (NKJV)

Its was never God's intent to have man alone but in one body worshipping the LORD- God even predicted this

““Also the sons of the foreigner Who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, And to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants— Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And holds fast My covenant—

But the entire day is holy and God wants us to have time alone with Him in communion as well as a church family.


We see this holy convocation continue on the New Heaven and New Earth!

“And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the LORD” — Isaiah 66:23 (NKJV)

In the Beginning…
Usual work was planting, tending, gathering, building…necessary daily Food and Shelter provisions.
And setting aside a Day to Reflect, Teach About God and Worship Him.

Interesting. If literal, the work was planting and tending a garden—squash, tomatoes, green beans—gathering what was grown, and building necessary food and shelter.

But Paul also spoke spiritually of being “master builders” and of a house not made with hands. “If this earthly tent is destroyed, we have a building from God.”

So when I read your post, I first think of planting as the seed sown in good ground, gathering as the gathering of the children of God, and building as the house growing upward into the fullness of Christ—bearing fruits by Him so that one never hungers or thirsts.

1 Peter 2:2-3 comes to mind:
“Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow… if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is kind.”

Then it makes me think that “rest” is not merely ceasing labor, but trusting the provision that comes from God.

“If we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content…” (1 Timothy 6)

So perhaps today, if the true provisions are already given by Him, rest becomes thankfulness rather than striving—receiving instead of anxiously gathering for ourselves.

"Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil... Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law..."

If someone says Christ's rest removed the Sabbath command, ask where Jesus ever taught that. He never did.

Jesus also said in Mark 2:27-28 (ASV):
"The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: so that the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath."

Notice He did not say, "The Sabbath is ending." He said He is Lord of it. You are cannot be lord over something that no longer matters, also notice that Jesus kept the Sabbath Himself: in Luke 4:16 (ASV): "And he came to Nazareth... and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day..."

And what did Jesus correct? Not the Sabbath itself. He corrected the heavy human traditions added around it, in Mark 2:23-24, Jesus shows the religious leaders attacking His disciples over man-made rules.

A helpful example is food. Jesus is called the bread of life, but that does not mean we stop eating physical bread. Water is used as a picture of eternal life, but we still drink physical water. In the same way, Jesus gives spiritual rest, but that does not automatically remove a day God blessed and made holy.

And Isaiah speaks of both Israel and foreigners:

Why love to God is keeping the commandments of God this is what fulfills the law in us by a changed heart where we want to do what God asks because we love Him so much. So its not just duty but love. We love Him so much we do not want to worship other gods, or bow to idols, or vain His holy name or break His holy Sabbath day. We love our neighbor where we do not want to steal from them or lie to them or break the least of the commandments of God. Sadly man has tried to flip this where all we have to do it love but live unholy lives or pick the commandments that work with our lifestyle, and no need do what God asks of His children if we love Him, sadly this is a deception,.

This is how God tells us to love Him- its never been based on our own feelings but a true commitment to God.

Are you saying that God is deceiving us by writing out Himself how He asks us to love Him? Only worshipping God a deception, not stealing from our neighbor a deception and so forth. The law of love is fullfed when we are keeping God's commandments. All of the commandments of God is Truth



And what are we when we do not keep them according to Scripture?



Why love to God is keeping the commandments of God this is what fulfills the law in us by a changed heart where we want to do what God asks because we love Him so much. So its not just duty but love. Sadly man has tried to flip this where all we have to do it love but live unholy lives or pick the commandments that work with our lifestyle, and not need do what God asks of His children if we love Him, sadly this is a deception.

This is how God tells us to love Him- its never been based on our own feelings but a true commitment to God.

Are you saying that God is deceiving us by writing out Himself how He asks us to love Him? Only worshipping God a deception, not stealing from our neighbor a deception and so forth. I quoted God's Words and how He tells us to live and love Him. No one is fulfilling the law of love by breaking the law of love, I know this sounds good in theory but in actuality the bible tells us what this is 1John2:4 . We can choose to accept His instruction or reject it for our own wisdom. This is not a new argument, its the one that's been repeating since the beginning of time. We will all need to choose who we serve which is shown through our actions, not words Rom6:16 James1:22 Mat7:21-23 Luke 6:46-48

The law of love is fullfed when we are keeping God's commandments. All of the commandments of God is Truth



And what are we when we do not keep them according to Scripture?



Why love to God is keeping the commandments of God this is what fulfills the law in us by a changed heart where we want to do what God asks because we love Him so much. So its not just duty but love. We love Him so much we do not want to worship other gods, or bow to idols, or vain His holy name or break His holy Sabbath day. We love our neighbor where we do not want to steal from them or lie to them or break the least of the commandments of God. When any do sin , they must repent . Confess repent . IF not
they must be seperated from TILL THEY DO repent . But again under the false judge not version that implies correct not
SIN was and is allowed to remain among the peoples .
AND what does leaven do . Leaven LEAVENS till the whole lump be ROTTED .
Error can only beget more error as leaven can only increase IF NOT CORRECTED and stopped .

AND you gots to do it against WHAT BE WRITTEN IN THAT LOVELY BIBLE .
NOT how ya men twisted it to say , BUT what is actually written . MANY follow and trust in men
And believe its GOD they trust in . TIME for the last hour stand . TIME
for all to hold a bible up and get busy reading it again for oneself .
