Is it true that it is either accept Jesus in your heart or be tortured in hell?

    Yes.

Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Act 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

In a way yes, but that's an oversimplification with regards to the second half of the statement. However, there is clearly one one way, and that is Christ.

I don't see how it's an oversimplification. If one is not saved through Christ, eternal damnation will surely follow. It's not pretty, but it's either true or it's not. It couldn't be more simple. We need to call a spade a spade here.

You misunderstand my post. Eternal damnation and eternal torment are not one in the same, and the latter is simply not Biblical. Thus, it is an oversimplification because it works off the modern assumption that there is no second death (or, like you pointed out in another thread, an example of where death doesn't quite mean death). It's more complicated in the second part than being tortured, unfortunately man's doctrine has watered it down to this concept.

Originally there was no choice. We were destined by justice to go to hell. The option of accepting Jesus was provided out of grace [undeserved favor] and it was very, very expensive. The ability to accept Jesus over hell should drop our jaws a heck of a lot more than that there are only 2 choices. The God of the universe became flesh to die for us to allow us the option.

Hell is eternal separation from God. If you choose to be separate from God (by not accepting the reconciliation option He has provided) in this life, why shouldn't God respect your choice to be independent? Would you force somebody to marry you after a lifetime of refusing to date you? It wouldn't make sense for God to force Himself on us in the afterlife after a life of rejecting him. Except the Truth goes farther than the marriage metaphor because it is also immoral and wicked to reject the One who 1) Created you, 2) Protected you to give you a lifetime, 3) Humbled Himself and died for you, and 4) Pursued you for your whole life. So if we don't accept Christ, not only do we deserve separation from God, we also deserve punishment. What kind of god wouldn't punish wickedness? God does punish wickedness, but He has provided a way to be forgiven at His own cost, because God is also a God of love.

Please stay on topic, if you disagree with something posted, start your own thread, don't hijack another's. Thanks!

    No, dear.
And then, of course, there are threads about this place called "hell".
Is it just a temporary place of purification? It is a very controversial topic.
Many translations, many interpretations, many scholars comparing different languages - what an interesting topic for you to research.

But, I will say this - what have you got to lose - accept Jesus in your heart and at least your life here on earth will not be hell. Mine sure changed!

You got it. I was praying for a topic for a Bible Study, and I do think you've found it for me. I wanted to recommend you to some past posts, and in the meantime I would suggest using our search feature. However, if you'll give me a little time, I'll have a study on this for you. I need to assemble some notes and write them all out.
