Did Jesus conquer death at the cross

or

At the resurrection?

I always believed it was at the resurrection....

If you care to, please add your reasoning or any scripture that might be applicable.

Thanks.

While fighting at the apex of his career, it was was often said of Mike Tyson that many of his fights were over before he ever stepped into the ring.

I don't know exactly when Christ conquered death, I do know that sin and death never stood a chance.

Amen to that!

When Jesus took responsibility for all human sin on the cross he signified that death had been atoned for legally in himself. It was at his resurrection that this legal act came to be realized.

I would say it depends on the definition
- what kind of death
- what is meant by conquering

God, the Father of Yeshua is credited with granting victory over death through His Son. This victory is central to Christian belief and is affirmed in Scripture, particularly in 1 Corinthians 15:57, which states: "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!" This victory was achieved through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection—events that defeated sin and death’s power.

The Father’s role is foundational: He raised Yeshua from the dead (Acts 2:32), exalted Him to His right hand (Phil. 2:9–11), and granted Him authority over life and death (John 5:21). Yeshua, as the sinless Son, willingly bore the penalty for humanity’s sins, satisfying divine justice, and thereby breaking death’s hold. As stated in Romans 8:37, believers are "more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

This victory is not merely physical but spiritual and eternal—the Messiah's resurrection is the firstfruits of the general resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20), and His triumph ensures that those who believe in Him will also share in eternal life. The Father’s plan of redemption, revealed through the Son, demonstrates both His justice and His mercy, with the cross and resurrection standing as the ultimate expression of divine love and power.

It was all "before the foundation of the world", but revealed and made manifest in each of the three days of Christ: "today and tomorrow I perform miracles and do cures, and the third day I shall be perfected"...which is all the history of the world from beginning to end.

I agree.
Sin was conquered at the cross.
Death at the resusrrection.
We all seem to agree on this.

But that doesn't answer the question in the OP !

Are you saying it is BOTH at the cross and at resurrection?

I think we all agree on the above.

Yes--yes it does: Again...Jesus conquered death "before the foundation of the world." But it has only been revealed and made manifest during the times of this world.
LOL
The other person was telling me that death was conquered at the cross.
I always believed it was at the resurrection.

We all know that with God there is no time.

Yes, the first to initiate it, and the last to complete it. We'll do the same, well those in Christ.
