Those are not the only choices.Do you confess them and receive forgiveness — or do you assume you do not have to acknowledge them because you have automatic forgiveness?
We can be open with God about our sins, about our weakness, about our propensity to slip into flesh mode. He knows us through and through, so there is no reason to even consider not acknowledging to Him whatever may be appropriate to do so. This is the best way I know to grow in the spirit, to involve God in Everything in my life.
We are reconciled to God in Jesus Christ, not from any thing good we have done. We did not gain our reconciliation by anything we've done, nor can we lose it by anything we do.
Trying to "be good" so we can have fellowship with God means that we earn fellowship with God by "being good".
Let me put this another way. We are reconciled to God in Christ, and trying to replace His reconciliation with our own based on our behavior is a work of the flesh, it's sin. We try to do the best we can to live worthy of the life He's called us into, but not to try to replace what Jesus did on our behalf.
Yes, I acknowledge my sin to God, yes, we discuss it, yes, I pray over it, yes, I continually endeavor to do better. Just the same, all my sins were forgiven, removed, 2,000 years ago. That forgiveness was received when I repented and received Jesus. I'm not about to insult God as if He hadn't given this most precious gift, and I have to get it from Him again. Jesus' blood cleanses from all sin.
We are forgiven in Christ, who made a once for all sacrifice. Once for all. Behold! The Lamb of God, that carries away the sin of the world.
That's the beauty of the Gospel. You are already reconciled to God, regardless. You must receive that reconcilation. Just the same, having been reconciled to God while you were His enemy, will you now be less so being His child?
Much love!
