When the Bible says, "Dead", what does it mean?

"Dead" means 'half dead', 'dead' or the 'second death' - in principle (exact context being relevant).

I s'pose we could squeeze its meaning (dead) into any of our theological constructs? .....let me see
. Don't the pagans also have a basket (did I say basket?) I mean a truck load of divergent views on the matter?

It means exactly what God says it means.
(Colossians 2:6–23) 1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. To all those who have been discussing the "First Resurrection" and "Where did Jesus go upon death," and if someone already said what I have to say it's because I have not read the whole thread.

Actually, the first resurrection were given to all those in Christ who were called and elected, and predestined to salvation, in eternity past before the foundation of the world. by the Father. Hence, sometime in the lives of the
elect while here on earth they had to become "Born Again" and given "Eternal Life" where the second death has no power over.
WHERE DID JESUS GO UPON DEATH?
Jesus told the good thief, "Today thou shalt be with in paradise."
For those who say paradise is in the good side of "sheol" or "hades" have NOT really read, Luke 23:46, where Jesus cried with a loud voice: "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit." By this phrase, can Jesus truly go someplace else than to heaven? We read in 2 Corinthians 5:8:
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Hence, my two cents worth.

those whose faith hope and trust is in Christ alone , THEY WONT FIT IN , or WITHIN MUCH of what is even called
and considered CHRISTENDOM . I aint waiting to seee where i fit in at all . We must simply point to Christ
teaching and reminding daily and often of all things HE did teach , all biblical sound holy bible doctrine .
WHO so ever hears amen . Who so ever rejects , ITS on them .
We dont FIT IN . not in this world we dont and thus we will never fit in to any place
no matter if it call itself a christain church or etc , IF ITS CONFORMED TO The world .
Lambs will just fellowship with lambs . But believe you me , LAMBS DONT FIT IN or within MANY MANY MANY and MANY places
and when i say places , i am specfically in this case meaning CHRISTAIN ones . Cause a DELUSOIN hastaken hold now
and its gonna run it course . By its end All NOT IN THE LAMBS BOOK OF LIFE WILL HAVE COME INTO ITS CONVENTANT AS ONE .
THEY WILL COME FULL FORCE AGAINST THOSE WHO DID NOT . THAT IS WHERE ITS HEADED AND EVEN NOW IS AT THE DOOR .
If you are not edified in the market place (online forums) it is perhaps you have more understanding than others of what Scripture have stipulated, and that is what I have perceived when you first joined CB.
You may not be edified on these forums but have you ever thought that many here might be edified with what you have to offer?
In any case, I leave you these Scripture to ponder upon....
1 Peter 3:14-17:
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy [are ye]: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 For [it is] better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
