So here is something interesting, how can we be ready to receive the Holy Spirit, from the perspective of the Return of the Lord? The Return of the Lord will herald many things, but most of all, it will herald a Revelation of how to relate to the Holy Spirit. We will learn, how to trust the Holy Spirit, the way Jesus does; how to be godly, the way Jesus learned; and to come with the Holy Spirit to God, that we may behold His Glory. How important are these things!
There will be more to say, when the Lord returns, but much of it will simply be living in the Holy Spirit as the Church has for thousands of years. We should not be in a race, to do more and more work for the Lord, the way Martha thought she was doing. Instead, we should be trusting that our works, will add to the reputation and standing of the Holy Spirit, the way the Lord has and will and will in Heaven. If we taste Heaven on Earth, all our works will be right (and isn't that encouraging?).
We still don't know how we will be rewarded at the White Throne Judgment, it is not impossible that some will get a greater reward, simply because they did what they were told, when they didn't have any instruction from the Lord, about the Holy Spirit or anything. Gradually, bit by bit, people in the world will realise: this work isn't impossible, it is good for the soul and it is to be trusted to the utmost. The faith realises this, even now. We are able to witness, to herald, the coming peace between Jesus and the Holy Spirit - the Lion and the Lamb, the Lamb and the Lion!
I just want to encourage you, that the things the Holy Spirit is saying to you now are important for the work we face this very Day. We should be ready and understanding with everything the scripture tells us - realistically, there should be at least two arguments we know how to dispel from scripture and two things coming that we are able to live for God in and two things of praise that we want to carry for God throughout life. The idea that we just need to take our place is wrong and of the Devil (the Lord rebuke him!).
Jesus said He had the strength to take us under His wing (but that Jerusalem rejected Him - Gospels, from memory) let us come to Him in faith, in this respect: that we get a double portion of the Holy Spirit, for the trial and work ahead.
