The book of Luke states that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod, when the first great census was taking place. This statement has been debunked by scholars and researchers who find it impossible because, although there was a great census conducted by Quirinius at around A.D. 6–7, it didn’t overlap with Herod’s reign. Herod had already been dead for nearly a decade by the time of the census. This puts Luke’s statement on the birth of Jesus in serious doubt.

Which Herod?
Do you know how many guys named "Herod" there were?
Everyone in politics named their kid Herod.

The key is not Herod of which you are correct there were many, but the first census of which there was only one which happened in 6 or 7 AD, hardly even near Jesus birth

Depending upon how you want to understand the evidence of the year of the census and which census...

From Archelius to the Tetriarchs and others each held a census to get the taxes squared up... because withholding taxes from Caesar was THE best way to get rich. How do you think that Levi or Zacheus got rich?

As they got an accurate count of the population they got a more reasonable amount of taxes that should be paid.
