[1John 4:14-15 KJV] 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
John saw the Lord Jesus, and was eyewitness to his glory.
John says Jesus, the Son of God, was sent to be the Saviour of the world. I don't think John in saying Jesus was sent to be the Saviour of the world is saying Jesus was sent to save all men and woman in this verse. I think that would not be consistent with what John wrote in the book of John. John said...........[John 1:10 KJV] 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not............I think John is speaking in a general sense of the world as being his creation. Jesus did not come to all in the world, but rather, to Israel, his own...............[John 1:11 KJV] 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
I do believe God wants, and purposed, that all be saved................[Isaiah 45:22 KJV] 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else.
[1Timothy 2:4 KJV] 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth..........I am only saying that the means, and the provision to save all was not being revealed by John.
John preached eternal salvation by believing in the name of Jesus...............[John 1:12 KJV] 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:.............Israel to be eternally saved had to believe in Jesus, they had to believe in his name, they had to believe he was Christ, the Son of God...............[John 20:31 KJV] 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name
[1John 3:23 KJV] 23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
[1John 5:13 KJV] 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.........John was not preaching the cross.
John wrote the John 3:16-18 passage, and similarities can be seen in 1 John 4:14-15. Both the John 3:16-18 passage, and 1 John 4:14-15 passage, speak of Christ Jesus being sent to the world................ [John 3:16-18 KJV] 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Both passages speak of belief in his name, that Jesus is Christ, the Son of God, for eternal salvation..............[1John 4:15 KJV] 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
[John 3:18 KJV] 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John's preaching centered solely on believing on the name of Jesus for eternal life. According to John, Jesus was the Saviour of the world to all who would only believe on his name.
