It's called, 'Fasting - is it really necessary?' in the blogs section. It started off as a sort of Lent meditation a few years ago but it became a lot more than that and I have tried to make it interesting and easy to read. It is set out in days and after day three it gets better.

The easiest way to find it might be to click on the down arrow at the side of where it says blogs and then click on 'authors' to find mine.

Going back to New Testament times, continuing in the Apostles' doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer were all linked and formed very much a norm for Christians in a locality who regularly met together.

Amen; and Acts 2.42 is still a wonderful, Scriptural norm for believers to aspire to and follow today, by God's grace.

Fasting is a Given in the church, but if people are not used to fasting for extended periods of time, they should consult with a physician or at the very least educate themselves on the ramifications first. I recently fasted for just over two weeks with no adverse side effects, but it has taken me years to get to that point. Anyone who eats fast food, junk food, or even the normal western diet will be in for a very unpleasant surprise unless they have an incredibly strong constitution.

I have friends who regularly eat processed foods, and can't go a day without severe pain. I stopped eating the western diet about a decade ago, and can go for days without so much as a grumble from my stomach.

Fasting is incredibly good for cleaning out one's body of dead or useless cells. It can be quite invigorating despite the descriptions found in the bible regarding the pious and their sad faces.

If all of those who gather while still eating their daily allotment of meat and potatoes to fill the basic needs of the body of flesh, but fasted from all sin, at least, on the day and during the time of gathering, imagine the difference it would make...? Help us dear Lord!

ok man ill try and hava look, as for lent I believe dat is a catholic tradition and is not part of the Christian tradition, and they fast at the time of pass over and I believe they pushed it forward a couples weeks coz it co-insided with the pass over, and I believe they fast for just morning and afternoon same as muslims, I don't get the point of dat, plus the pass over is a time of feasting not fasting to celebrate the sacrifice of the lamb.

Passover, at least as it is outlined in the bible according to God's instructions, is NOT a feast. It is the preparation day prior to the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is a celebration of their release from the bondage of Egypt.

Lent isn't just a Catholic tradition. Presbyterians, and other Protestant denominations observe it as well. I can see why they have to move it around from time to time because the preparation day always moves around.

Christians just naturally assume that the Passover is always celebrated on Friday. It wasn't even on Friday in the passion narratives in the bible. Who knew?

Nor do I; but the self-denial principle -a year round thing - is certainly Biblical.

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9.23
