Luke 5:32
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

One cannot be saved until they admit they are sinners and repent. Then one can be saved. Sinners are something a believer is never called but always refers to unbelievers in scripture.

1-Sinners are a group of people distinguished from the righteous (Lk 15.1-7; Mt 9.13; Mk 2.17; Lk 5.32; 15.10; 1 Pet 4.18; Gal 2.15,17)
2-Jesus had compassion on Sinners (Mt 9.10; 11.19; Mk 2.16; Lk 15.1-2; 19.7)
2-Jesus compared his audiences with Sinners (Lk 6.32-34)
4-Some are worse sinners than others (Lk 13.2)
5-Jesus was persecuted and crucified by sinners (Heb 12.3; Jn 9.16,24-25,30-31; Mt 26.45; Mk 14.41)
6-Jesus is not a Sinner (Heb 4.15; 7.26; 2 Cor 5.21)
7-Sinners are under condemnation and a death sentence (Rom 3.7; Jude 14-16)
8-Law of Moses was given to Sinners (1 Tim 1.9)
9-Sinners humble themselves before God (Lk 18.13; 5.8-9)
10-Sinners can be given mercy, justified and saved (Rom 5.8,19; 1 Tim 1.15; Jas 4.8; 5.20)

hope this helps !!!

There is "righteous" and then there is "self righteous". Self Righteousness is used to describe arrogants and ego. Somone who thinks they know everything. When we are self righteous we put ourself in a position where we can't learn anything because we think we already know better.

There are many self righteous people on this forum.

Self Righteousness is being right with yourself. Righteousness is being right with God.

There are righteous people out there in the world, whom just seek to do the right thing, it seems Mary and Joseph were blameless parents according to the Law, however they had faith in God which made them right with him, and now it is Jesus whom makes people right with God through faith and no longer on the condemnation of the Law.

Which people are able to use over people - even the bible to condemn, as though Faith does not make them right with God.

Your thoughts?

Of course, those who are already righteous (or who think they are) don't need Jesus, do they?

Can only assume the plausible for sure, Lambano. It seems that way, from what the Lord stated about those whom say "Lord, Lord", look what we did - but not what your son had done.

I think the Psalmist hit it on the head when he said people are righteous in their own eyes, humble ones who know they are sinners, are teachable, self righteous individuals are many times not. Jesus used children as an example of those inheriting the Kingdom, as they like to please their parents, and want to learn.

If I were translating this passage, I would place the word "righteous" in quotes because Jesus is talking to those who consider themselves to be "righteous." Essentially, Jesus is saying, "I did not come to call the 'righteous' but sinners."

Jesus is using a term that the Pharisees would use in reference to themselves. He could have easily said something like "I did not come to call the "so-called" righteous but sinners." Earlier in Matthew Jesus was critical of the so-called righteousness of the Pharisees.

In this passage, Jesus quotes a verse from Hosea chapter 6 verse 6, "I desire mercy and not sacrifice." This translation of Hosea 6 follows the Septuagint translation for the Hebrew "faithfulness", referring to covenant faithfulness. The word appears as "lovingkindness" in the Psalms as in "His lovingkindness is everlasting."

Hosea speaks about priests who were like a den of robbers, leaving bloody footprints all over town. Imagine that. For all their sacrifices and piety, they were nothing more than second-rate thieves.

In other words, one might obediently follow all the rules and at the same time, fail to understand the meaning of the sacrifices. The sole purpose of a sacrifice is to make an appeal to God for mercy. Accordingly, just as God would prefer to show mercy to his people, he would expect his people to show mercy to each other. When God shows mercy to his people, he is faithful to his covenant; when his people show mercy to each other, they also demonstrate loyalty.

If the Pharisees understood this, they would reach out to the tax-gatherers and sinners just as Jesus did.

Maybe what's important to God is מִשְׁפָּט ("mishpat", justice) and חֶסֶד ("chesed", lovingkindness, the word used in Hosea 6:6). Or to combine Luke 11:42 and Matthew 23:23, "Justice, mercy, faithfulness, and the love of God".

The weightier provisions of the Bible.

In Christ's seeking out sinners, God is demonstrating for us what His own justice, mercy, faithfulness, and lovingkindness look like. I guess we are supposed to "go thou and do likewise".

A few things here. Heaven is for right now...seek first the kingdom doesn't mean try to die physically.

The righteous are the humble, meek, and honest ones.

You may be confusing the righteous with the saints. The saints rule with Christ in the next age. The righteous inhabit the nations in the next age and are ruled over by the saints.

Do a study on righteousness in the OT...read the Psalms and Proverbs especially. It'll give you an understanding of what WE are to be like.

To understand the walk of a saint...go to the gospels and epistles in the NT.

Matthew 9:13

Jesus came to save sinners.

We all qualified.

Also, ... because "all have sinned" then none are righteous.

And thats the Problem God had to solve, for you.

The Problem is....How does RIGHTEOUSNESS, have a relationship with SIN?

It can't.

So, God as Christ died on the Cross to deal with all your sin, and give you his "Gift of Righteousness".

All the born again are "made righteous" by literally becoming..."THE righteousness of God....IN CHRIST".

Welcome to : SALVATION

Its a "Gift".
