I moved into my townhouse last Wednesday 1/21. What a difference, I have two external walls and attached townhouses on either side. The heating is incredible, it is 3 degrees here at midnight and the heat comes on 4 times an hour. I have always ran the heat in the house higher when temps outside dipped to the fridged.
And I am hoping everyone is keeping warm through all this.

I started this thread so we could stay in touch during this cold period for various reasons.....discuss problems and have company. When it is this cold problems can be threating and might be good place to discuss and get advise. God bless you all.

I'm in Los Angeles so we only dipped into the 60s and a little lower overnight.
But I'm watching your situation with the bad storm.

Sometimes I think meteorologists have stock in the grocery stores.....LOL
They always present winter weather as storms or the storms of the century.
I am 68 years old and I remember back in the 70's when we had 3 feet of snow in Missouri and ice storms with 3 inches of ice that stripped tree and collapsed roofs and drug down power lines......weeks without power. At that time I lived in a 30 foot Cobra fifth wheel camping trailer....my own generator and 50 gallons of water and plenty of heat. So to say the least I was popular.

Over the last 20 years the worst of the winter weather we get in Missouri is thin layers of ice which makes travel treacherous for a few days. I know that single digit temperatures in other areas allow for deep snow but around here the single digit temperatures have a tendency to produce granule snow that does not stack up and due to its gritty texture is not as slippery.

For example, it has been snowing here for 24 hours and we have a little over an inch of snow and they are keeping up with clearing the roadways. The wind has been minimal and most of our electrical lines in the cities are underground, so very few power outages or short outages. Not true of rural areas.

The single digit temperatures are the primary reason I started this thread so people had a place to go to talk about preparation or the problems they are having.....sometimes just cabin fever.

God Bless

Upstate NY, it's been frigid for the last couple of nights. This morning, my truck read -11F at 8 AM...at least the temps are forecast to go up with the snow coming through. We're expecting 12-14" for the total storm. It's actually not a lot of snow for our region, but we have had 5 or 6 very mild winters in a row, so this winter has been rough.

Well here in Farmington Missouri at 0340 or 3:40 AM for my civilian friends, it is 8 degrees with mild wind. It has been snowing since noon yesterday...Saturday, and we have a little over 4 inches of gritty snow. I have plenty of food and it is 77 degrees in my house and I ran a hot shower for fifteen minutes to get the humidity up a little.
The electric heat gets the air too dry.

WOW! Woke up this morning 6 degrees and 12 inches of snow. They were forecasting exactly that but I did not believe them, I figured about 4 inches. But the snow has stopped and I lucked out that the snow blew away from the screen door so I could let my little boxer out to pee. She generally loves the snow but it was too cold for her, she did her business and ran back in.
