Words, the gateway sin

This may be kinda long,,,


I tried to clean up my speech for a while, and did quite well. Then I began hearing people around me cuss.

I noticed, they would say a word and not think twice about it. In my mind I thought, "How nice it would be to say what ever you want and not worry about it".

Slowly but surely, more and more foul language poured out of my mouth. After a little bit it became natural. I got exactly what I wanted!
I can say anything and not give a second thought.

As more time passed I kept cussing. I began to notice something more. Other bad habits started appearing. First one thing, and then another, and some got worse. Before I knew it, I had a nice trunk full of sinfull things that crept in.

After I noticed that, I began noticing every single cuss word I said. Now that I look back, there's a definitive moment,,,,, It all started with one single solitary seemingly harmless word.

It's interesting, sin breeds sin. It makes perfect sense that cusssing, or gossip, or anything evil comming from our mouths opens the door wide up for other things.

Apparently our words are the gateway to actions and other problems. No wonder we're going to be accountable for everything we say.

So, added to my long list of corrections that are needed, cleaning up my language is first priority.

I think it's goes back a little earlier than words. Sin starts in our thoughts. We think it, then we say it, then we do it. Notice you thought about the seemingly harmless words to say first. I think that's what Christ talked about when He magnified the law to include not just your actions but also your thoughts are sinful.

I work with people who carry on with foul words all day but are good people who do a job that the majority would refuse to do or could not hack it any road.

I don't care what they say as long as it is not intended to deliberately offend for no good reason or more so their words are deceitful then it is a problem.

How good it must be one sipping tea looking down ones nose at some poor dude struggling to keep the sweat out of his eyes and busting there gut when the snob would not even imagine doing the same job for only 10 min. O' bother and blow.

I have seen enough trash cans who would look up to career dole bludgers more so than a hard working honest person. true story.

s???,d???h??? etc. are words that we have put a label on. what words that defiles you has God labeled ,empty, faithless, words. my dad has cancer,you know it runs in the family?or i think i,m catching a cold?or i,m just a poor sinner saved by grace?.or if i make it to 50,i,ll be happy?or, were just poor southern people or, that cars a piece of c???. when you speek you are judgeing yourself when you talk like this,and sailing your ship in that direction. :blin : life and death are in the power of your tongue, in the spirit and in the flesh. judge yourself

I think there are more important things to worry about than four letter words. Politically incorrect language does why more harm than traditionally bad words.

I remember an old dude telling a story about a true Christian QLD premier called Joh. saying that when Joh was a young man he hit his thumb real hard with a hammer and this old dude said that he was so impressed in the way that Joh controlled him self.
And that it was 50 years ago that he still remembered it and he took this hat off to him for it.

Hmm. Reading this really spoke to me. :) I never REALLY thought about how cussing could lead one into sin (though I knew it was a sin itself, just not how much it could breed other kinds of sin). You're absolutely right though...I'm really bad to cuss. I need to get out of that habit. Thanks for posting this. ^^

James 3:10 - From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Colossians 3:8 - But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.

Matthew 15:11 - It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”

You're right. It does start as a thought. But my point was how something as simple as even saying something has the potential to open other problems.
