My premise: Christianity having begun as a sect of Judaism, the God of the Bible is the God of Judaism.

“You don’t know what you’re worshipping. We Jews know what we’re worshipping, because salvation comes from the Jews.”

(John 4:22, ISV)
The Gentiles have no reason to be arrogant about such knowledge, and the Jews should take warning, what is coming upon them will ultimately lead to their salvation.

Good points.

What catches my eye is Jesus including himself in the comment. Most Christians reject Jewish monotheism. Jesus and his contemporaries (those who were his disciples as well as those who weren’t) didn’t. Jewish monotheism is his / their / my monotheism.

“I follow Jesus!” … “but his Jewish monotheism is heresy!”

That begs a hard question.

I wrote a reply to this then realised maybe this knowledge is not for everyone.

“Salvation of the Jews” in Greek literally means “proceeds from” them. It is not exclusive to the Jews alone but is channeled to others through them, as reflected in Deuteronomy 4:6: "Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’” (ESV)

Just as we today should apply these words to ourselves, acknowledging that we sometimes fail we can also be confident that Israel will soon fulfill these promises. In the grand scheme of time, it won’t be long before it happens!

Zechariah 8:23:

"Thus says the Lord of hosts:
In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue

shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying,
‘Let us go with you,
for we have heard that God is with you.’”

Amen and amen!

The choice we are confronted with in scripture is between Jewish monotheism and idolatry.

Neither is for Jews alone.

“Yahweh our God”

Both Jews and Gentiles make up the "our"...but they must understand His Singleness of Person and Godhead.

I was reading the Nicene Creed earlier this morning.
Terrible creed but men with all manner of philosophical misconceptions desire to remake God in their own image.

2 Corinthians 4:4-6: “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

With all that so-called wisdom in the room, not a single one of them realised (maybe one!) they were actually proclaiming themselves through that creed.

It’s a rather sad observation...to make a god in their own image

Just a reminder. Members who are registered “Christian” are prohibited by the Rules from expressing dissent from the Nicene Creed here. Only members who are “Other Faith” may do such a thing, and even then within limits.

I’m registered “Other Faith”. Please don’t allow my unbelief in the teaching of the creed to lead you into trouble with “Christian” members and moderators.
