Is there a contrast to that in Galatians 4:10-11?
'So teach us to number our days,
that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.'

(Psalm 90:12)

'Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.'

(Gal 4:10-11)

Hello @justbyfaith,

* In answer to your question (above) - I don't think so: consider Psalm 39:5 and Job 14:1-2 :-

'Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth;
and mine age is as nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
Surely every man walketh in a vain shew:
surely they are disquieted in vain:
he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.'

(Psalm 39:5)

'Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down:
he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.'

(Job 14:1-2)

* Consider also Psalm 90:1-11.

Praise God!

In Christ Jesus
Chris

I'm not sure I see it. Can you elaborate a little?

Hello again,

Please compare:-

'O LORD God of hosts,
who is a strong LORD like unto thee?
or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
Thou rulest the raging of the sea:
when the waves thereof arise,
thou stillest them.'

(Psalm 89:8-9)

'And He saith unto them,
"Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?"
Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea;
and there was a great calm.
But the men marvelled, saying,

"What manner of man is this,
that even the winds and the sea obey him!"'
(Mat 8:26-27)

Praise God!

Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
Chris

@charity:

I really love Psalm 90!

Sentences such as 'we spend our years as a tale that is told' are rather memorable; and point is to 'number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom'.

Hello @justbyfaith,

In reply#78, in relation to Psalm 90:12, you asked farouk if it could be compared with Galatians 4:10-11. I, not having seen Farouk's reply in which he said that the verses in Galatians related more to 'ritualistic observance ', commented on your comparison by quoting from verses which I thought were more in keeping with the meaning of Psalm 90:12; to which farouk came back with a good reply (above in #87), in which he said that we are told to consider what a short span of time we have to live, therefore need to 'apply our hearts unto wisdom', so that our lives will be wisely lived: and in the case of the believer, lived to the glory of God.

Praise God!

I hope this explains my post.

Sabbath keeping was all part of the Jewish law-keeping system; and Hebrews 7.12 shows that the law was changed and Hebrews 7.19 says that what we now have is better than the law.

'O sing unto the LORD a new song:
.. sing unto the LORD,
.... all the earth.
Sing unto the LORD,
.. bless His name;
.... shew forth His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the heathen,
.. His wonders among all people.
For the LORD is great,
.. and greatly to be praised:
.... He is to be feared above all gods.
...... For all the gods of the nations are idols:
........ but the LORD made the heavens.
Honour and majesty are before Him:
.. strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
.... Give unto the LORD,
...... O ye kindreds of the people,
........ give unto the LORD glory and strength.
.......... Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name:
............ bring an offering, and come into his courts.
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness:
.. fear before Him, all the earth.
.... Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth:
...... the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved:
........ He shall judge the people righteously.
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
.. let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.
.... Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein:
...... then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the LORD:
........ for He cometh,
.......... for He cometh to judge the earth:
............ He shall judge the world with righteousness,
.............. and the people with His truth.'

(Psalm 96)

All of Psalms 1 is so highly excellent as a motivation for staying in God's word (Revelation 3:20 is also excellent for when you are straying from doing so).

Not to mention 1 Peter 2:1-3. These passages are a sure recipe for "religious preoccupation." :eek::confused:o_O:mad::oops::):D:cool::p
