Psalm 27:4
"One thing have I desired of the Lord, that I will require, even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to visit His Temple"
My chief desire, my ultimate goal, and my only need; to dwell in the house of the Lord. This should be the anthem of our hearts every day. We should desire nothing more than Christ, strive and reach for nothing more than Christ, and need nothing but Christ. If all else were taken away from us, we should still be content if we have Christ. Many days, we desire and long for the things of the world; temporal things that will bring us satisfaction that will fade in a moment, and that will fade away to dust before long. Many people desire many things of the Lord; wealth, fame, or power. But the Christian's true desire is for Christ his King. This is the one thing that the Christian requires; that he absolutely needs in order to make it day by day; to dwell in the presence of the King. Job proved this to be true; every last earthly possession he had was stripped away from him; he sat with nothing in the midst of ruin, and yet he still praised God! Do we hold Christ in this same esteem? Could we truly be happy if, like Job, Christ decided to take back the possessions that He has lent to us for a time? My prayer is that Christ will each day give me that one thing I truly cannot live without; Christ Himself!
