Does anybody else here struggle with this? It seems when I have a lot to do I start getting overwhelmed and stressing because I get fearful that there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done.

I used to, but making lists and prioritizing helps. Still don't get everything done, but I don't stress

Each day there are
  • things you HAVE to do
  • things you SHOULD do
  • things you WANT to do
While the wants are usually the last priority, you should try to get in at least one a day, as that makes life livable

Make lists in order of priority. Set yourself goals. And take enough rest breaks so you don't get bogged down. And most of all pray before you start and ask God to help you.

There's a very simple solution to getting organized:
1. Get a piece of paper and a pencil.
2.Write down everything that needs to be done in the order that the thoughts come to you without trying to prioritize.
3. Then sit down and prioritize by putting them in numerical order, the most important being #1.
4. Then type out the list on you computer so that each item has a box beside it (using a table format).
5. Then get up at 6:00 a.m. the next day and be ready to tackle your tasks by 8:00 a.m.
6. If you work steadily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (with a lunch break) you should get a lot accomplished. (But there can be no foolin' around in between).
7. Check each box as you complete each task. Pretty soon everything will be done and you can move on.

The dead give away you are taking on too much. See Hurried Woman Syndrome. The # of hours is fixed. What you can do in a given day needs to ALSO be limited, therefore.

My wife is totally oblivious to why I say no to things until AFTER she hits the wall in energy, frustration, stress, exhaustion, anger, resentment and total loss of emotional control. It gets to a point that she cannot even handle routine matters like open a jar or bottle without having a melt down because something took 5 seconds longer than she thought it should.

For some reason, she wants to argue about the wrong thing. I am not saying no because something is bad. I'm saying no because our plate is already full! She's more reasonable about planning out vacations in allowing for travel time, down time, prepare and eat foot time, rest time, etc. For some reason, during a regular day or weekend she is HIGHLY vulnerable to over-scheduling.

The other great thing about this approach is even if you do not get everything done, at least you have the satisfaction of knowing you did the things that are most important to you.

The question to ask yourself is how many effective hours are there in a day? Henry Ford came up with the 8 hour work day for a reason.

At work, we plan to meet annual capacity based on how many effective days in a year we can plan on. 365? No. 235 days. Keep that in mind, theoretical v effective work work.

True. And under normal circumstances this works. But under abnormal circumstances, people should be willing to work 16 hours to get the job done. It all depends on what is at stake.

What I have noticed in the workplace (at least for office workers) is that they waste at least half their time (if not more).

Only everyday, :D Mostly I put imaginary blinders on when walking through the spare room :eek:

I don't work or go to school so the only time I would be waking up that early it would have to be for a very important reason,.. such as milking the cows. :rolleyes:

OK then. No later than 9:00 a.m. But never as late as when the cows come home.:D

If you are not starting being productive as soon as the sun rises, I think I understand why you feel there is not enough hours in the day.

Unless they have a job or a baby or something, who the heck gets up when the sunrises? The earliest I usually get up without a reason is eight o'clock in the morning but it's usually ten or eleven because I like go to bed at one or two in the morning and sometimes a bit later than that. XD

There's a good reason for the saying that the early bird gets the worm. Most of those sayings were actually very wise.

When it came to household tasks my mum used to say do the corners first and the middle will take care of itself. So @April_Rose if it's housework you are struggling with that's a good tip.

Yes.

I caught myself yesterday. I was spending hours cleaning up and I realized I had gone back and forth just zig zagging around about 50 times not really doing anything. Got very frustrated because I was getting dizzy/vertigo almost.

That's my ADHD.

I had to remember I did the cleaning course video - this one.

Then I followed instructions and remembered what he said. It got done.

It isn't always worth starting anything for the sake of just starting it. It is better to have a plan and a sense of direction.

I also have to limit myself and prioritize. Some things don't have to be done right away.

Then some things are easier taken care of right away. This morning my youngest took out the Legos then went to play something else. I brought her back and I said, "If you want to do that you need to put the toys away first."

So she cried. Then she picked them up. Then she said," That brings a smile! "

Then she dumped them out again so we did it again. :p
