I can’t make up my mind as to which is more ridiculous, that people are referring to that piece of land as the Israel of God, or the people currently inhabiting it as the Israel of God.

The Israel of God, their faith and trust is in His Son Jesus Christ.

Israel the nation has never been the true Israel of God, not in Old Testament times and not now. But this did not mean God forsook them, even in their idolatry. I quoted in the following post that God promised not to forsake His covenant with them to a thousand generations. How do you respond when people bring this up?

Ok, Lol. I think you are doing a pretty good dance, but at least it's plausible. My response would be that if they had serious issues with pride they wouldn't even be there. As scriptures says, "He abases the proud but gives grace to the humble," and the people in the passage are already in the kingdom. But I can tell this may be a long discussion...

Since you are responding, I'll look into starting a thread for us tomorrow maybe. I'll also invite Marks and Backlit. Maybe we'll all get something interesting out of it. ;)

Now I'm guessing you're going to think I'm "arrogant" in saying this again, but this post just comes off like a barrage of words. Not a lot of it I can take any more seriously than your accusation that I'm arrogant. The part about the Jews not actually being Jews I suppose is interesting, but not exactly something you've demonstrated proof for. But this part above... You believe Christ "detested and hated the Pharisees"? He strongly chastised the Pharisees, but this contention of yours that He hated them is I believe at the heart of where you and I disagree so much on this issue. Jesus taught in Matthew 22:39-40 that the second greatest commandment was to love your neighbor as yourself. It is also said that as He was about to enter Jerusalem he wept and said, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem. How I would have gathered you unto myself as a hen gathers her chicks, but you would not." Jerusalem was the home of the Sanhedrin, and thus the home of the Pharisees. You believe in these things that what Jesus was actually saying is "Love your neighbor but hate the Pharisees"? Not all Pharisees were His enemies. Nicodemus certainly was not. And even for those who truly were His enemies, Jesus said the following:

"You have heard it said, 'Love your friends and hate your enemies.' But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

Jesus was saying He wanted the way they treated others to be perfect. How could their behavior be perfect if His wasn't? If He was detesting and hating the Pharisees when they were His enemies, how could He teach that the disciples were supposed to love them?

Wow, a can of worms was opened up here. Some refuse to open their eyes as to what is happening in Israel. Now eyes are
on Rome. Rome is nothing. Evil eyes are fixed on the Pope, as if he is the Antichrist, lol. He points people to Christ, believes in Christ, sacrificed his whole life for Christ and His flock. Sure their are flaws.
Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses that criticized many of their practices and rituals, but he WAS NOT CONDEMNING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, JUST REFUTING CERTAIN THINGS, exposing errors for the purpose of reform. Do not forget that they carried the gospel for a thousand years before the Protestant Reformation. Do not discount the missions, orphanages, hospitals and charities that they have spread along with the gospel and still do. Is that not worth something? Evidently God thinks so, other wise he wouldn't have waited a thousand years to send someone.
Has any person here who hates Catholics ever spoken to a priest, a nun and asked them about their lives, their faith and love for one another? They become celibate, a sacrifice I would not be willing to do. Would you have as a teen? "Yep, women are beautiful, but Mom, Dad, I'm going to deprive myself for life, go to seminary, become a priest and dedicate my life to God and serve His flock."
What do you do? What have you sacrificed?
Oh, a couple hours a day condemning Catholics and Jews online. Congratulations ... Rewards in heaven are being stored up.

The enemy hates us far more than these do..

Israel was the name God gave to Jacob after he wrestled with an angel.
The history of how the State of Israel or Israel Nation got its name is complex.
"This is actually three separate questions. What did the name Israel originally mean? How did the ancient Jewish people and their homeland come to be known as "Israel"? And how and why was this particular name chosen for the modern state?"
