I was just reading about the part in the Bible where he was executed and beheaded and I wasn't sure (from what I read) why exactly.

Herod's wife was ticked at john because he condemned her marriage, something about Moses law, and marriage to half siblings or something, have to look it up. So, Herodias (the queen) was told by her father that she could have anything she wanted, even his kingdom...but the mom asked her to ask for john the Baptist's head....and that's what happened :)

Yeah but what was Moses's law and I actually thought that it meant figuratively at first. I didn't know that he actually got beheaded. o_O

Matthew 141-11

1" At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

11 And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother"

" Herodias violated Mosaic Law in at least three ways. First, marriage to one who was “near of kin” (i.e., “a blood relation”) was prohibited (Lev. 18:6).1 Josephus identifies Herodias as the daughter of Herod’s brother Aristobulus (Antiquities 18.5.1). Second, marriage to the wife of a brother was prohibited (Lev. 18:16; 20:21), unless the brother died childless (Deut. 25:5-9). Herod Philip was still alive when Herodias married Herod Antipas (cf. Josephus Antiquities 18.5.4). Third, Mosaic Law only allowed the man to “put away” his wife (Deut. 24:1-4). Josephus writes that, “Herodias took upon herself to confound the laws of our country, and divorced herself from her husband while he was alive, and was married to Herod [Antipas] her husband’s brother”

“It Is Not Lawful for You to Have Her”

Whoa, wait! Wait! So marriage was considered to be incest back then? Is that what you're trying to say?

Herod was in an adulterous relationship with his brother Phillip's wife Herodious and John called them on it....She got p.ssed and when an opportunity came to get revenge she did. Simple as that.

That brings an all new meaning to the phrase that they'll have your head.

Under Moses law you couldn't marry the next of kin unless your husband was dead.
Her husband wasn't dead. And so it was a sin.
According to Moses' law.
She got mad about it and told Herod to cut off John's head.

So then why didn't Jesus do something about it and restore him? The poor guy got his head cut off. I'm assuming they eventually buried that as well.

Actually I believe they still have John's head in a Cathedral somewhere....

As to why didn't Jesus intervene...
That's a good question.
Let me think about it :)

I think we also need to hear what JESUS said on the subject .
But who so ever puts away His wife , save for the cause of fornication and does marry ANOTHER comits adultery .
But i say unto you . You are loved dear sister .
Dont worry about me , I have all joy . Happy is the one who keeps JESUS sayings .
And i have been single seventeen years . Cant remarry or it would be adultery . YET i got all joy .
HAPPY is the ONE who keeps His sayings .

I'm having trouble loading the page and copying anything from it

Where is the Head of Saint John the Baptist?

If you scroll down half the page there is a part that says:
Where His Head and Other Body Parts Might Be

It won't load, I don't know why...
hugs

I just posted a video above that shows the place the skull is apparently located.

So did Philip put away his wife though? or was she with them both?
Either way. They got caught, she got mad, and John was killed.

I been married and divorced twice before I knew it was adultery.
And I'm single now and plan to stay that way.

This "adultery" is so much more than just between a man and a wife though.
It also encompasses those that leave God and follow after other "gods" .

Adultery and fornication is throughout the bible.
I believe God sees adultery as His bride (church) leaving him for another.

Backsliding Israel, the w_ore of babylon...
all the examples like Hosea and his prostitute wife.
Almost a fixation on sex.
But I believe it has a more spiritual meaning than a physical.
Although the physical is the manifestation of the heart.

Much Love amigo
