Scriptures below on this post as posted by Robert derrick on another thread:

For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. [Heb 5:13-14]

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God. [Heb 6:1]

I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. [I John 2:14]

The words below were saved to my computer on another forum in 2011. They may be pertinent here:

And herein we may see why there are so many denominations or churches based on the Bible, but with often diametrically opposed doctrines.

Many apparently have received the gift of the Holy Ghost, but the Holy Ghost teaches us, only, as we allow ourselves to listen. The Holy Ghost is not always finished on a given point when we close up our spiritual ears as if we had already heard it all.

On some of these points, we may purposely never re-open our ears, so we will remain with what we already have instead of continuing to grow in that area. We must continue to grow until the end or whatever spiritual Life we have received will die. We must continue to eat and drink of the things of God:

"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him." John 6:53-56

"He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30

"And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith." Luke 17:5

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26

I’m not sure because “babes” is confusing because there is also: Luke 10:19-24 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. [20] Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. [21] In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. [22] All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. [23] And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: [24] For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them ; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Luke 10:25-30 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? [26] He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? [27] And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. [28] And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. [29] But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? [30] And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

1 Corinthians 14:20-21 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. [21] In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

I don’t know John, upon seeing what years of studying has done to many people, I’ve about concluded that the written word is the most catastrophic thing that has happened to man. When it should unify it divides.

It divides the wheat from the tares....the Written Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, witnessed by the Host of Heaven is infallible.....is a Living Word....it purposely calls to man to keep seeking His Truth....line upon line, precept upon precept....and it is a divider...
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
— Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

I wouldn't even begin to read my Bible without first asking the Holy Spirit to help me understand the message in what scripture is teaching. Where my eyes could not see before open them now to see clearly.

Babes in the Lord are able to see and hear the things of God, even if it is not as clear it will be when and if they have matured some more.

Old men in flesh are blind and deaf to the things of God.

KJV Matthew 10:34-36
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
Christianity is a system which, received and obeyed, would spread peace, harmony, and happiness throughout the earth. The religion of Christ will unite in close brotherhood all who accept its teachings. It was the mission of Jesus to reconcile men to God, and thus to one another. But the world at large are under the control of Satan, Christ's worst enemy, and who is waging constant war against His church. The gospel presents to world principles of life which are fully contradictory to their habits and desires, and they rise in rebellion against it. They hate the purity which reveals and condemns their sins, and they persecute and destroy those who would urge upon them its just and holy claims. It is in this sense—because the exalted truths it brings inspired hatred and strife—that the gospel is called a sword.
The same even in the church itself, which is why we have churches teaching so many different doctrines and traditions. It isn't because the gospel teaches churches to be different, but rather because churches no longer actually teach scripture or believe it.

I was studying the Bible for all I was worth from 1976 until the early 1990's. Because I was out of balance I backslid then for 10 years. Too much flesh [scripture] and too little blood [Holy Spirit]. When I came back in 2002, I had learned a very hard lesson. I slipped at times since then, but never have I returned to that same mistake... To grow toward God we must partake of both the Flesh and the Blood of Jesus. Filling our brain with memorized scriptures and doctrines is meaningless if we never connect with God!

I’m beginning to see that all the reading of scripture accomplishes is empowering people to treat others however they see fit. All in the name of Jesus of course. The Bible tells us to speak the truth in love. I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed this.

No Life in it! The Spirit of God is missing in many people who are sitting even regularly in the church pews! Instead of growing toward God, they stagnate and die!

They have too often learned to use the sword foolishly for their own purposes according to their own wills, instead of always seeking and following God's will!

Depends. There are some SDAs who don't believe the Bible either. But if you believe the Bible, the least you would do is start observing the Sabbath. That would be a good start. It's always good to spend a day of God's choosing with Him.
