I went back and read it.
@Wynona Thanks! Anyway I thought that what the fictitious Mandi and Jim said from their different perspectives are quite typical among different Christians, don't you? In any case, ink is so widespread, and - as Mandi "said" - just because she had several tattoos, it doesn't necessarily mean that she wanted more.

Nope! I got my nose stud when I was 18 - she took me and my tattoo was a gift from her, if I remember correctly.

My mom was always sort of hippy-biker mom and my dad builds guitars for a hobby. Good musicians. They are pretty chill people.
@FluffyYellowDuck Well, it's so widespread to have one's nose studded and get a bit of ink that it's really not surprising that your mom - who if she went to fashion school, is likely very fashion-conscious - helped and encouraged you a bit to have it done...

In any case, a simple little nose ring can be a quiet and low key way of expressing individuality, can't it? (and it has Biblical precedents also...)

No, Not for me! But I have no problem with someone else getting one, if they like. Wouldn't bother me a bit.
@Cassandra In any case, it's become so mainstream and widespread, hasn't it?

All the young people with Bible verses tattooed that I have talked to seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons.

...get off your opinion into reality

50 years ago it was a tattoo
@Truth7t7 All the young people with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons. So for ppl to give them a hard time about them for eschatological reasons seems totally unnecessary....right?

I dont believe a bible verse tattooed should bring a hard time for anybody, however tattooing is of pagan origin and forbidden in the old testament

@Truth7t7 Thanks for the comment. It's interesting that an adjacent verse in the Leviticus passage seems to say about not trimming beards; do preachers shave? if they do, they are maybe making a backhanded comment about being New Testament believers under grace, rather than Old Testament Jews under the law in the land, with their bushy beards.

Seems to me that some young ppl have gotten Bible verses such as John 3.16 inked joyfully, since they anticipated that these would open up many opportunities to talk about it.

My young days are past, tattoos are in and I'm sorta neutral on the subject to be honest

@McFearless FYI....thread I started....

(I think there are a lot of tattoo parlors in Denmark, right?)

Sorry the poll already closed.

I’m not sure I really have an opinion on the matter. I think it can be dangerous but life is dangerous in it self. I think people have the right to do what they want. If I had sons and daughters I would advice against it, but I don’t know anything about the risk I only know that I see a lot of ugly and funny tattoos and that’s not really my style.

I couldn't explain my unease with tattoos very well. Now there's more clarity in my spirit.
@Wynona You have mentioned your unease; you must follow your own reading of Scripture, right?

Some ppl are a little frightened by the idea. Others definitely are not. Everyone's experience will not be the same.

Just to bear in mind also that unease similar to yours won't be every believer's experience; some people will go through a lot of thought, prayer and Scripture reading and unease won't be the result for them; did you see what Rita said, for example?

Rita said:
I have never regretted my tattoo..I love the tattoo..the tattoo was not liberating-the tattoo represented the liberation and freedom that the Lord had brought me through. The tattoo in of itself was merely the means of expression and the reminder. ..there was thought, study, prayer and discernment involved-and I have always had complete peace about it. ..I did look through scripture and reflect on it before I got one-and it was also something I had to deal with as my sons reached 18 and got tattoos. ..With my son's it had nothing to do with my feelings as a Christian, it was more a reality check that they were making decisions that I had little control over. With me it was more an inspiration, so I felt good about it. ..I was 50 when I had mine done, and two of my sons had various tattoos long before me.. their mum, at the age of 50, ..getting a tattoo - they thought it was ' cool '..I made the decision with a mature head on my shoulders.

@McFearless Thanks for your comment. Maybe in Denmark it's a bit different, but in North America so many Christians get them; faith based tattoos are very widespread.

All the young ppl tattooed with Bible verses with whom I have talked seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons.

This is a quote from the Bible Belt:

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

@Truth7t7 Thanks for your comment.

As the discussion above with @Wynona maybe also shows, ppl can basically have the same doctrinal beliefs but on a subject such as tattoos can hold a wide variety of opinions, right?

Some ppl really don't like their tattoos:

I have a forty yr old tatt-they look ridiculous on wrinkly old skin :) )

For others it's such an established custom and it's done with a great deal of confidence:

A wide variety of thoughts about it is really inevitable, really, isn't it? Anyway, all the young people with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons.

I would like it on top of my hand. Where it could be seen.
@MatthewG Well, I guess a significant part of a witness tool is being visible, right?

I think for many young Christians it's the sort of witness tool that they couldn't always have gotten but when they reach the adult stage of life they will think, This is now a witness tool I wish to use because I am now a man / a woman.

For many ppl, it shows confidence in what they deeply believe; they go to the tattoo parlor confidently.

@McFearless I saw a video where a lady who owns a tattoo parlor indicated that the inks generally used are a lot safer than those used decades back.

Maybe some ppl get tattoos because they see them as a bit edgy. But the same could be said about double pierced ears, over 40 years ago, when teen girls and their moms started putting two pairs in: maybe at first it was regarded as a bit edgy, but it's now so established that venerable great-grandmothers have them.

LoL. I actually know a girl who has gone about this far overboard with the tattoos. She's also into body-building now.

She looks fit, but still.
@Hidden In Him Some ppl do go overboard with tattoos, yes.

But a lot of ppl get them for witness reasons, without going overboard.

Anyway all the young people with Bible verse tattoos with whom I have talked seemed to have had them done for evangelistic reasons.

I don't buy the idea - old fashioned? - that tattoos are somehow supposedly unladylike; a lot of Godly Christian women have a bit of modest, faith based ink, without at all going overboard.
