And here’s the real kicker - the people I did all that judging on? They weren’t even believers. They hadn’t received the down payment as I had. And I was judging their behavior toward me who had received the down payment. Like…if I couldn’t treat them any better than they treated me and murdered them in my heart, I was expecting them to be how even I couldn’t be. Talk about finally realizing how poor you are!
I kind of think that as long as we have those areas where we aren’t believing something He said, and therefore aren’t hungering and asking for what we lack, it’s impossible FOR Him to do any miracles through us, as even of Jesus it says, and HE couldn’t do many miracles there because of their lack of trust.
And honestly, most of His gospel deals with earthly things like human relational stuff, because it’s for training in righteousness/caring about others at least as much as ourselves - and if we won’t believe Him about earthly things, how can He tell us about heavenly things?
Amazing the things He reveals...it hurts, for sure. Hard to recognize in ourselves but oh too easy to see in others. I imagine it could be compared to how Peter might have felt after denying Christ 3 times, when he swore that could never happen.
It can be overwhelming to know how we have done the very same things we condemn others for, talk about an overhaul! In with the "new" and out with the "old"!
Yeah but that’s the thing, it doesn’t hurt… the overwhelming thing is joy and excitement and shock and peace because…it frees you from that miserable place of…being controlled by your passions, grudges, hatreds, judgements. To see you are exactly the same is actually relief from that. It doesn’t make you feel bad. He shows you the truth and it sets you free from the stupid pretense and then you stop hating people and yourself. You begin to feel compassion for us all rather than hatred for us all. And you love the freedom so much that…you just never want anything else again but brutal honesty. You just love the truth because…it sets you free. It’s the darnedest thing. What you think should make you feel awful makes you so happy you can’t stop thanking Him and laughing.
People often say we are just picking and choosing which words of God to believe and which words of God not to believe. I have seen this in myself, so of course I agree with it! I want us to post things in here that Jesus said that we have come to see at some point we weren’t believing and how He made us see we weren’t believing it. It doesn’t matter if you are still struggling to believe and be firm in it or if you are now firm in it, just that you have seen or did see your mistrust on it.
Many believe a bit too much Grace, and act upon it
Yes, Paul was correct (of course) to say that they had not missed the resurrection. But putting it off into the distant future was not the answer either. They did not understand, and he did not elaborate further.
The correct answer... is there is only one date/day that is, or can be, universally "that day" of the Lord's coming.
Okay, maybe not "hurt", more like being ashamed and sorrowful, the realization ofhow we can be so blind to ourselves.
That isn’t the way it happens though. At least for me. There’s no inclination to shame or sorrow when I see the truth finally, because the relief of freedom from your passions that tortured you so outweighs it that there’s only joy. There’s not sorrow to see you really are exactly the same as other men, there’s joy that He finally let you see it! You shout, He has killed my enemies in the land, the enemies that taunted me continually without cease!
It’s like…when a blind man sees, he doesn’t have sorrow that previously he couldnt see and sorrow for all the times he bumped into something and fell. He just leaps and runs and is happy he NOW can see!
We are like the blind man Jesus healed in two stages. He saw a little but then he stayed with Jesus and got even clearer sight.
Hmm…I don’t think Paul put it off to the distant future. He just said, remember what I told you, it CANT happen until such and such. Even Paul didn’t know when “ such and such” would happen.
Ive thought the person who had convinced them the gathering had already happened did so by “and they saw many of their dead walking around.” And said, if the dead were risen, then the gathering happened already because they rise before us and then those who remain on earth are gathered, so we got left.
It’s a very strange think. I hear people say, there’s only one resurrection!! There’s a VERY specific verse, but still they say it…but the “and further” makes it even stranger, because some of the dead resurrected already if they saw them walking around…Mystery and puzzles!
1" Thessalonians 4:15, NIV: "According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep."
...and they didn't. The saints who already passed on WERE first to be risen. As far as there being only "one resurrection" , could that mean "individual" res.? We will only die once and rise once, to be with The Lord or to eternal torment. Maybe it is the timing that has some shaking their heads...if we count every person who has passed (Christian), who became "present with The Lord" there were MANY resurrections but only ONE for that person...make ANY sense?
Oh don’t bother about the people who say there’s only one resurrection. They are wrong. But they keep saying it. They get very heated about it in the end time threads! If you go into those threads it is to find the mistakes and insufficiencies in each view, not to find a correct view.
4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God.They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
Even after reading Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah...you can still get differing messages. So much in the timing of all the things written. I know some believe we are already in the thousand year reign: um, cannot imagine Jesus ruling over this world with so much sin going on still. Could be that when reading your "bolded" verse, they think that those who rose from their graves after Jesus was crucified, are the very same who rule with Him? Hence, they think we are already in the 1000 years? Cray Cray.
Yes, I didn't mean to say that Paul put it off to the distant future, but rather those who heard his explanation which was not yet conclusive, still to remain a mystery.Hmm…I don’t think Paul put it off to the distant future. He just said, remember what I told you, it CANT happen until such and such. Even Paul didn’t know when “ such and such” would happen.
