That's why He was not "merely" a sacrifice. He was and is the Resurrection and the Life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Paul says this:This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Tim 1:15). And that is exactly what Jesus said about Himself (John 3:13-17): And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.I've heard said Jesus came here to die. I can understand the reasoning behind that, but something in me, maybe the part that got loved, is appalled at the thought of seeing Jesus as merely a sacrifice.
Where I was coming from...That's why He was not "merely" a sacrifice. He was and is the Resurrection and the Life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Aye, you're a tough taskmaster, ye are, MatthewG. Ye mean it's not enough to parrot scripture; I have to think and apply it and synthesize some conclusion about it?Going through them what are your own overall thoughts on the subject ?

Interestingly, Paul wrote,Where I was coming from...
On another forum, there was a segment of the population with a spirit of "hyper-dispensationalism" in that they regarded Jesus's earthly teachings as only for the Jewish people of his time and irrelevant to Pauline Christians. "Jesus, shut up already about taking up your cross and get up there on your own cross so that you can die for my sins." Jesus is just a sacrifice, that's all. That's the only role He has. And God help me, I found I've picked up some of this kind of thinking myself.
That mindset depersonalizes "the Son of God who loved me". I can't do that..
I don't share your dimishment of Jesus' sacrifice for me...
It seems to me Jesus accomplished more than one thing. First, he died for our sins. Otherwise, we would have to suffer endlessly. Second, he taught us how to live so we can be happy and safe. He also set an example for us.Why was Jesus sent?
