I've heard said Jesus came here to die. I can understand the reasoning behind that, but something in me, maybe the part that got loved, is appalled at the thought of seeing Jesus as merely a sacrifice.
That's why He was not "merely" a sacrifice. He was and is the Resurrection and the Life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Paul says this:This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Tim 1:15). And that is exactly what Jesus said about Himself (John 3:13-17): And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

At the same time without that one great sacrifice for sins forever, no man could be saved.

Where I was coming from...

On another forum, there was a segment of the population with a spirit of "hyper-dispensationalism" in that they regarded Jesus's earthly teachings as only for the Jewish people of his time and irrelevant to Pauline Christians. "Jesus, shut up already about taking up your cross and get up there on your own cross so that you can die for my sins." Jesus is just a sacrifice, that's all. That's the only role He has. And God help me, I found I've picked up some of this kind of thinking myself.

That mindset depersonalizes "the Son of God who loved me". I can't do that..

many have shared great details, thank you for doing so.

what to you is the overall great extent if you could put it into words the great achievement of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Christ?

I do not expect everyone to know everything just feel free to share if you would like to.

Interestingly, Paul wrote,

2 Corinthians 5:16-17 KJV
16) Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Jesus came the Jewish Messiah, the Savior of the world, come to remove the sin from the world, and to fulfill Israel's covenant on their behalf. What He did and taught should be seen in this light.

But even if we did know Jesus "after the flesh", that is, knew Him as He lived on the earth, we don't know Him that way any longer, and for that reason, if we are in Christ, we are new creations.

To know Jesus Christ is to have eternal life, and is to be changed to become more like Him. That didn't happen with those who knew the Man, Jesus. But the Spirit of Christ in us transforms us.

I don't share your dimishment of Jesus' sacrifice for me even if every word He spoke was meant for someone else, whether that be true or not (I think it's case by case), even so He loved - me - and gave Himself for - me.

Have you ever realized that God knew exactly how you would read and interpret His Word before He wrote it? He knew the special Word you would find on that particular Tuesday after that thing had happened. He put it there for you.

You know that God speaks to us personally from His Word, out of context, regardless of the original language, just, God makes a sentence or a paragraph or a word "come alive", and we know we've just been touched by God.

Much love!

please share ( I don’t mind if comments are similar just participate if you desire)
It seems to me Jesus accomplished more than one thing. First, he died for our sins. Otherwise, we would have to suffer endlessly. Second, he taught us how to live so we can be happy and safe. He also set an example for us.
