@soul man So did you lose touch with your wife's nurse with Scripture inked up on her arm?

(Something like this, maybe...

@Bible Highlighter Incidentally in Psalm 40. 'mine ears hast Thou opened' says in the original: 'digged', i.e., pierced, which links with the bondservant in Exodus 21 and seems to point forward to the Perfect Servant, Who was obedient unto death.

God marks us, and we don’t mark ourselves. No offense, and I say this in love, but tattoos are pagan. It’s spiritual darkness and clearly not of God. It would be like trying to justify murder, adultery, theft, drugs in the name of God.

Not gonna happen.

Tattoos are a sin.
One is either following the Bible, or they are following their own way.

That looks like my daughter's tat of Palms 23. Yea we only knew her from when my wife was in the sick.
@soul man It must be an effective talking point, if she uses it for that.

Though it used to be more of a man thing, women can get tattooed now with a lot of social confidence, making a lot of opportunities for Christians who wish to use the medium for faith or Scripture designs as witness talking points.

So as well as Psalm 23 did she get full sleeves inked?

@Ziggy, Well....this would be tattoo wording with plenty of thought behind it...
I can't say it's a simple walk in the park, that's for sure.
If I did get it, it would be for myself.
Reminding me, I still have a lot to learn.
Learn to Discern

2 verses pop out to me.

Mal 3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

and

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Discern: H7200 raw-aw'
Gen 1:4 And God saw H7200 the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

chewing, chewing, chewing...
If I had teeth I'd have ground them down below the gum line.
And still the grinding continues...

Food for thought eh?
Hugs

Yea I see that. She has a sleeve, but the Psalms is on her leg.

@Ziggy Kind of, as a personal reminder, then, I guess?

I do love Malachi! such a little prophecy with such searching content applicable to pilgrim, isolated believers....

...I was thinking about it a few weeks ago when I heard talk about Christians and tattoos on an FM radio station while driving to work. It was as if the talk hosts were reading the discussions directly from this thread! I thought that was neat. They were discussing possible pros and cons for getting tattoos and faith based tattoos, and the opportunities and consequences that might come with it.

@Rudometkin People do have their strongly held viewpoints; and don't be surprised if your wife finds it hard to get accustomed to the idea even of others getting faith based tattoos.

But all the young ppl with Bible verses inked that I have talked to seem to have had them done for testimony reasons, anyway (...which shows that Christians do look at it from more than one viewpoint, right?)

Of what use is anything without love? Paul wrote an entire chapter on the subject.
@michaelvpardo It's interesting that John 3.16: 'For God so loved...' is part of a quote which seems to be used by Christian young men and women receiving inking on their arm as a witness tool.

All the young ppl with Bible verses inked that I have talked to seem to have had them done for testimony reasons, anyway.

It's the only verse some professing Christians know.

@michaelvpardo While it's a good start, there's so much other wealth to be gleaned from God's Word, indeed.

I guess in a sense, having a John 3.16 tattoo visible is like saying: 'This is what I want to talk about!' right? :)
I would hope so, but some folks will think that you just like football, while others will avoid you like the plague.
Have you gotten numbers on how many people with such tattoos are actively involved in street evangelism or missionary work?

I don't want to be cynical, but sometimes people do religious things or use religious symbols for appearance sake. Does the Pope's ring and crown make the man worthy of people kneeling before him or bowing to kiss his ring?

Last week, I scratched off an old revolutionary war symbol off the back window of my pickup truck and replaced it with an Icthus containing the name Jesus. Did I suddenly become more faithful to the Lord, or do I see that belief as less offensive to neighbors?
Maybe I just wanted that reminder on the truck to help restrain my behavior behind the wheel.
I'm not telling. ;)

@michaelvpardo Oh I take your point about underlying consistent realities being more strategically reliable than appearances, indeed.

All the young ppl with Bible verses inked that I have talked to seem to have had them done for testimony reasons, anyway.

@michaelvpardo It's also interesting that the heart logo is among the most popular of tattoo symbols, isn't it?
Our society holds a lot of romantic notions, but older cultures that arranged marriages seemed to be more stable and had more long term marriages (though not necessarily happy ones). The problem is that Agape is not romantic love, but more like commitment or as expressed in the Old testament, like a hen caring for her chicks, more about doing than feeling. I actually think that the older translation as "charity" is more appropriate, but we don't think of marriage as charity between husband and wife (though perhaps we should. )
