@Titus Whether or not they are suitable for every Christian, all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done as witness tools. There is the expectation that having them would lead to conversations with ppl. A passage which may be relevant is Romans 14, which speaks of Christian liberty.

With your logic, I should start smoking to reach smokers, etc., etc.

Romans 14 is being abused anytime someone uses this chapter to justify the means.
We do not get involved in the degeneracy of the world to draw the world to Christ!

We show the world we are different to draw them to Christ,
Titus 2:14
Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

2Corinthians 6:17
Therefore come out from among them(unbelievers) and be seperate, says the Lordl
Do not touch what is unclean, and I will recieve you.

@Titus Thanks for your comments.

I do think that the verse you quoted on the other thread is relevant here:

"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man." (Mark 7.15)

@Ronald Nolette I may have mentioned that a shy young woman that my wife and I talked to had the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area. I reckon she went into the tattoo parlor joyfully.

I am too much of a wuss to go through all that needle jabbing! I have had over 12 surgeries, I am tired of being cut up like a salami!

@Ronald Nolette Glad you are doing okay after all those surgical visits.

From that perspective, anyway, seems like many Christian young women -seeing as it seems to be a really joyful experience for them to get inked with Scripture, etc. - find they have a lot of confidence to do it.

New generation, new ideas to present the gospel! Love them all!

@Ronald Nolette Well, seeing as at about 18 it's what they seem to do, then for a lot of young believers - and seemingly Christian young women especially - it appears similarly to be the way to go.

(I saw this quote which shows just how widespread it apparently is in the Bible Belt.)

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

As I have always taught my adult students, there is only one gospel and that must be presented without any compromise! But HOW we p[resent that one gospel can be as varied as there are people on teh planet.

@Ronald Nolette Well, you know how in the navy submarines are known as the Silent Service. (For obviously reasons, right?)

Well, getting a Bible verse tattooed can similarly be called a Silent Witness.

If you see the analogy. The person may not say anything at all. But if ppl notice and read the tattooed wrist or arm, etc., then it can be a testimony all the same.

@Titus Re. the use of faith based tattoo designs as testimony tools (Bible verse, ref., etc.), I guess there is always an element of pragmatism involved, right?

In this time when all Christians need to be sharpening their swords and checking the oil in our lamps... here is you bothering with ALL your multitudes of posts about tattoos , ear piercing , body piercing , and everything that has NOTHING at all to do with the kingdom of God , it is not faith building, encouraging, uplifting, or anything that helps us in any way. It is not biblical.
In fact it all came from the very opposite of biblical!!
Cool … I never saw Christian exhortation that involved turning your “oil lamp” into a Molotov Cocktail and “Sharpening your Sword” so you could flame another Christian and plunge your sword through their heart before. Interesting approach to “iron sharpening iron”. ;)

@atpollard Oh don't worry; Helen is a nice lady; we have known her for years; she does write a lot of good posts.

Everyone gets to make their own choices.
If they have a clear conscience concerning tattoo's by all means that's their choice.
If others are concerned or conflicted over getting a tattoo, then when in doubt don't.
Right?
Hugs
@Ziggy

So would you yourself above all be concerned and conflicted?

When I was in my younger years I never gave it any thought.
I'm a lot older now, and I don't feel a need.
I am not opposed to those who choose this way or that.
I'm just not interested.
Hugs

@michaelvpardo So I guess, in summary, you're not strongly against or strongly in favour; if done at all, do it moderately, I guess...
I don't believe in judging another person's liberty in Christ Jesus, but prefer to simply attempt to keep a clean conscience about my own deeds. There is no personal benefit in judging others, but there is great benefit in judging yourself.
