If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left. (Heb 10.26)

I used to purposely sin for the pleasure of it, not I don't. Because of Jesus Christ living in me, I don't purpose it or enjoy it when I do.

He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (Heb 11.25)

Before I believed Jesus is the Christ and my Savior I used to love to sin and to chase after sinning and didn't care if I was of the devil or not, but now I hate to sin and try not to sin. I don't do it deliberately anymore to enjoy it like before. That is how I know I am still saved while sinning, because I still believe Jesus is the Christ and is my Savior and I don't enjoy sinning anymore. I used to not care what pleased God or the devil but only myself. Now I care about how doing good pleases the Lord and sinning displeases my Lord. The unsaved are as I was purposely sinning for the pleasure of it but Christians are not willing to sin and we do it without pleasure.

There is no sacrifice for those who still enjoy sinning, because they don't want one because they still want to enjoy it. I used to be that way so I completely understand it. I have a sacrifice while sinning now which means I have no pleasure in it. That is how I am now resisting sinning rather than pursuing it. When I sin I am sill saved and thank God for it rather than toast the devil for the pleasure of it. I used to do that all the time as much as I could.

The reason you do not find pleasure in sinning is because the Holy Spirit given to us super-sensitizes our conscience. To have any peace and be able to rest in Jesus is to simply obey your conscience. Jesus made it simple. "My yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—he Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)

Yes this is how we still know God is in us because we do not enjoy sinning and as long as we don't want to return to enjoying it He will be with us to help us not to.

It's not really a matter of obeying as though we can't sin but more a matter of hating it when we do. We can sin and most Christians will but because we are saved we will not enjoy it. If we start to enjoy it again then we are in danger of not having God living within us. It's not if we sin but rather if we enjoy sinning. Purposely sinning with pleasure is without believing Jesus. Sinning without pleasure is still believing Jesus for our Lord and Savior.

I think it would matter if it hurts someone else, or just yourself. Personally I don't have it in me to willfully hurt someone else, but I may drink one too many glasses of wine, but not out in public. And then wait about a year for another glass. LOL Thank goodness birthday's come only once a year.

That is interesting. Not out in public. There is a difference between riotous living and drinking to excess in our own homes and there is also a difference between cursing and being foul in anger and hate. I can laugh along with another when they use words to describe something funny. I believe it is the spirit behind things that is most important and not the manner of expressing it with the present company in mind. I drink in public but don't get drunk but as you say at home I drink and don't worry so much about how much as long as I'm not making a mess of things.

That's a funny question because I don't think about it. I know Jesus is the Christ and always make sure I am believing that and that is all that matters to me. I know technically it is the word for anointed and I have experienced His anointing on my body and in my soul and will again if He wants to.

“…Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.” (Romans 11:20-21)

I have a sacrifice while sinning now

“…if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26-27)

I'm not saying it is okay to get drunk, but it is only from experience that you know how much you can hold and not feel it. Its been a long time ago that I had been drunk - decades. This last birthday, my next door neighbor asked me to come over that night and share a bottle of red wine in the pool. No lights, just float and talk. We've done it before with no problem. I don't know why, but this bottle must have been more potent than what we've had in the past. I didn't feel it until we had finished the bottle, and then a little while later it hit me. BAM!

Judas hated his sin of betraying the Lord, but we know his story did not end well. So just because you hate your sin does make it any better. It is only when we stop our sinning that God holds back His wrath against us. Jesus said the Ninevites shall rise up in judgment against this generation because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. If you were to turn to Jonah 3, you would see that the Ninevites cried out to God and forsaken their evil ways. It was not until they turned from their wickedness is when God turned back in bringing judgment or wrath against them.

Hi @1stCenturyLady So generally speaking, though, from experience you do definitely know your limits as to how much alcohol you can comfortably take?

That's just it. I thought I did. Maybe it is my advanced age, but I'm going to limit myself to only two glasses in a whole evening.

Oh so the incident you wrote about was quite recent, then........

I guess it's wise to take stock and make sure one knows one's levels, right?

As I said sinning purposely and wilfully is with gusto as I used to do. I not only don't anymore but I can't and I don't want to learn how to again either. Returning to the pig slop is like a pig who loves it. And I am in now way saying it is impossible to but only that my daily practice of faith is to never forget for one moment that Jesus is the Christ and is my Savior.

And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you. (Heb 12.5)

But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. (2 Peter 1.9)

That is what I purpose never to do by always purposing to believe He is my Savior and Lord. No matter what I may be doing at the time and if it is sinning then I must believe to confess to Him and be forgiven and saved by Him.

Yes but Judas did not confess nor repent of it either.

You see I am not talking about hating the results of sinning like all people can which I even used to hate after loving to do it. I now have no pleasure in it while doing it and so I do far less of it. And when I do I also do believe Jesus to confess to Him and be forgiven. I exercise myself in believing Him always so that when I sin I will also believe Him for confession and forgiveness and salvation.
