Good point. It is understanding what “hell” actually is from the Jewish perspective that gives us the correct understanding.

There are several words translated “Hell” in our English Bibles, and it is the misinterpretation of these words that allowed Christendom (starting with the RCC) to use them as a fear mongering weapon to frighten ignorant people into submission. They kept them in ignorance by forbidding them to read the Creator’s instruction manual, and no one was allowed to question what “the church” taught to its hapless congregants who were herded like sheep into a maze of false and often frightening beliefs.

First we have “hades” which according to Jewish belief was “Sheol”...or simply the common grave. There was no one alive in Sheol (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10).....it was the place where the dead “slept” (figuratively speaking) until the promised “resurrection” (or restoration of life) which was to take place under Messiah’s Kingdom. Jesus demonstrated the resurrection on a number of occasions, by restoring the dead to life.

Another word Jesus used was “Gehenna” but it was also translated as “hell”....this is not a place of conscious torture either. The city of Jerusalem had a garbage dump outside it’s walls, where the city’s refuse was burned by fire that never went out; it was kept constantly burning by the addition of brimstone (Sulfur) so that whatever was thrown into the fire was completely destroyed. The carcasses of dead animals as well as the bodies of executed criminals were thrown into Gehenna for disposal. What the flames missed, the maggots finished off, hence the description of what happens to those in Gehenna.....‘the flames never cease and the maggots (worms) never die’.

To a Jew, no grave or tomb meant not being remembered by God in the resurrection. There was no tomb out of which to call them. (John 5:28-29)

Gehenna is also called “the lake of fire” in Revelation. It just means “the second death”.....eternal death. The first death is the one that overtakes us all, but Jesus promised that this death was not permanent. He showed his disciples what resurrection meant by restoring the dead to life. This was to take place under the rulership of his Kingdom.

The future resurrection will give the ignorant dead time to learn about their Creator and to decide for themselves if they wish to serve his interests here on this earth......their conduct will determine whether they will be allowed to remain or whether they will be dispatched to the “lake of fire” to be utterly destroyed....the “second death” holds no possibility of future life. Unlike Sheol, what goes into that figurative “lake”, never comes out.

So it is indeed good news that there is no “hell” where conscious souls are tormented forever. What kind of a loving God would do that?

As for the people on the streets, we can put the blame for their plight squarely on the shoulders of inept politicians. The commercial system is only one of the controlling elements of the devil’s world, which creates the circumstances in which people have to live.....driven by greed, it does not care about people, only the money to be made by exploiting them. Many of the homeless are victims of that system and it is a sad reflection on the priorities of worldly governments that they always have the means to take lives, ploughing endless funding into expensive weaponry and their military might, but not to save the lives that are already at immediate risk. The homeless problem is caused by the greedy minority exploiting the needy majority. No one works harder than the hungry....but it is so bad in many places now that homelessness is basically an epidemic, sweeping formerly wealthy nations whose citizens are forced to live in third world poverty. Can we blame them for giving up and turning to substance abuse to blot out their misery?

The powers that rule this world, know how we got here.....but they will not sacrifice their profits to save lives. They serve their own master. (1 John 5:19)
There's a difference between absorbing knowledge and comprehending knowledge. Many people today take in voluminous amounts of knowledge that they use to appear superior, but they don't actually comprehend what they know.

Then there's belief. With belief, people can appear to know something before they know it.

But then I've been brought into the light many years ago. I've already decided that light was my home. So my choice was made on that day, and I'll return there when my life here is finished.
Jesus is the only LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
He is the CREATOR, THE BREAD OF LIFE, THE SOURCE OF LIFE (PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL), THE TRUTH, THE DOOR, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE VINE, THE ALPHA AND OMEGA, the solution to our dilemma.
The purpose of life is to be reconciled with God through Christ. This should happen sometime in your life - if you are on His list. If so, He prepares your heart, orchestrates the circumstances that draw you close to Him which are people and events that come into your life to lead you down thw right path. At some point, He lifts the veil of blindness so that you can see.
We cannot jumpstart this process, we can't just lift our own veil. It is not an intellectual pursuit. It is of the heart, not mindless though.
Faith comes by His Word and you need to approach it with humility. Drop all the preconceived notions, the doubts and approach Him, like a child. Pride keeps us from God.
We are born sinners, with this natural tendency to rebel against and resist God, go our own way, rebel against His LAW. We are given an idea of what sin is by the LAW. And simply part of the LAW is the Ten Commandments. Have you lied, stolen, coveted, committed adultery, dishonored your parents? Every person would agree they have violated one of those. Well idolatry is also a sin against God too. Everyone worships something if not God; yourself, money, another person, possessions, etc. Everyone has rebelled against God.
If you tell a two-year old, "You can play with everything in the room, but don't open this box, don't even touch it." Well, this seems to be the only thing he is curious about. He can't let it go, he must, he disobeys, he opens it ... and Chucky pops out! Lol. No, you know what I mean, people push up against the rules/laws, boundaries, testing them, bending them and violating them all the time. It is our nature to go our own way and push away from God. So we are lost until He draws us back. The Word has the power that leads one to salvation, it draws us back to reality, what is really true about life and it's meaning. We simply have to give Jesus a chance. He stands at the door and knocks, whosoever opens the door ( of your heart), He will come in and have a relationship with you. He doesn't force His way in, He is humble, gentle and willing to forgive your sins. We cannot do anything to remove our sins, only He can. So the wages of sin is death, physical and spiritual. We all die, but we can all live eternally in another realm - not the Twilight Zone, Heaven. I do people can resist this drawing power of God. I do He draws all men to Himself. So obviously, some resist, they become too callous and hardened, bitter. The losses of loved ones, failures, pain and suffering may have caused them to blame God and so the remain stubborn, eventua)y becoming bitter, depressed, not able to fill that missing void with anything and they have tried everything. It is a God-shaped vacuum onside that can't be filled with anything but God.
That's it. When He calls, answer the call ... or else suffer the consequences., DEATH.

I watched the movie Black Adam yesterday. It was trippy seeing Dwayne Johnson in that role. There was a line in the that movie that peaked my interest ("You can't divide the world into good and bad") I already got that message some year's ago. It was nice to hear it spoken on a big budget movie. I've always loved the rock, always.

I don't ignore the people on the streets. And many others don't as well. And yes there is a hell.
Unfortunately I have to work with people like that almost every day and there is little I can do for them but treat them as well as they allow me too. Some don't allow you to help them.

That is true. I have to use discretion when helping some of them. I don't just help anyone. Some are mentally ill, some are criminals and then they can be aggressive and potentially dangerous.

Mind you, it's a contradiction to claim America was ever God's country since it was founded counter what the Gospel of the Christ put forward.

I see you're from Australia and attacking the USA. I find that very typical for some European countries people even to this day. It is them that the USA people escaped from and that dictatorship and wicked church. And even now mocking the people of the USA for seeking freedom of religion.

Devin, in conversation with your fellow Americans, I believe that we Aussies are in exactly the same situation as your nation is....our forebears stole land from the indigenous people too, and also with much bloodshed and subjugation.

TBH, I don’t find that something to be proud of.....especially in view of where the indigenous people find themselves today in their own lands, or in lands that they were forced to inhabit due to captivity and slavery.
The Spanish conquistadors also shed blood and forced ‘conversion’ on their conquered people at the point of a sword. You cannot for one moment see Christ in any of their activities....can you?

IMO, Australia has gone a bit overboard in its promotion of the “sorry” agenda, which should have buried the atrocities of the past whilst trying to promote the fact that all are equal citizens of the same nation. No matter what color or heritage we claim, no descendants of the conquerors should see themselves as superior and the indigenous people as inferior, yet that legacy of the past remains.

Hatred for blacks and whites still festers under the surface, mainly because of socio-economic reasons.....the deep seated resentment remains and we can understand why. The whites treated the blacks here as inferior and many have grown up in very inferior circumstances, limiting education and training for a place in the modern world. Areas with high indigenous populations are often dangerous places to live.
Yet, we all bleed the same color.

I have to agree with @I.O.U in some of the things he mentioned. No nation on earth with the record for bloodshed and the development of heinous weaponry that the US and her allies (including Australia) have amassed over the last century, can ever claim to be a “Christian” nation.....it seems as if Christ’s teachings fell on deaf ears if any nation who claims to be “Christian” can shed blood on that scale...and without a drop of that blood in two World Wars being shed on their own soil. (Isaiah 1:15)

When you step back and look at the world from God’s perspective, he is not fooled by the propaganda that is fed to the citizens of various nations to solicit support for their unchristian activities.
When it comes to patriotism, many countries put their own nation’s interests ahead of their Christian duty to obey the one they claim is their King. (Matthew 5:43-44)
Which is the only nation on earth that has actually dropped nuclear bombs on innocent people?

If 1 John 5:19 tells us that “the whole world lies in the power of the wicked one”...what part of the “whole world” is the devil not controlling? If we can see through the propaganda, it will never result in us breaking God’s law to promote the interests of nations who hide what they are doing behind the scenes. Propaganda is an ancient weapon but it still feeds the populations of modern nations who have the means to present themselves as “angels of light”, when in reality they are just puppets in the hands of the god of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

We are staring down the barrel of the greatest tribulation in the history of the world (Matthew 24:21).....so, who is prepared for what the Bible tells us is looming in this "time of the end"? Do we understand what is happening and why we need to warn others about what is going to take place?

What do you see as the future Devin? Who do you believe?

Some beliefs are more destructive than others, for example I don't think you'll find many christians who fly planes into buildings..;)
No. They just steal land, murder native inhabitants and drop nuclear bomb's.

Steady on, we Brits civilised half the world and if we hadn't settled the natives hash American wagon trains would still be coming under attack, Aussie aborigines would still be throwing boomerangs at people, and the Zulus would still be trying to out-sing welsh choirs..:)

Yes, that is what "people" want to believe, but what was left behind was far worse than the practices of the Brits that went out to civilise the hoards that they plundered. What I have observed in my visits to one particular country is that they have adopted all of the British practices and gone over the top in applying them, and now hate the Brits with a passion. This can be seen with whom this country now aligns itself with.

How can someone genuinely help someone else if the help they give originates from what they already believe is best for that person? I can't understand how anyone can help me in my situation unless they actually know me and my needs, which follows that they drop their own designs for my life and understand who I am.
