All of these kinds of misreadings are religious in nature and VERY deceptive.

How can we ever have a real church if we are satisfied with assuming and presuming our way into the text? What we have is a delusional religion that is meant to be exposed and rejected when everything is compared to Christ.

I think the problem comes in when I ask about being baptised into Christ. The one who has been baptized into Christ is now dead, and freed from sin, according to that passage.

It's on the same lines as the verse about those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. The qualifier is "those who wait on the Lord", and the outcome is, "they will renew their strength".

In Romans 6, the qualifier is, "as many of us as were baptised into Jesus Christ". If this is you, then the outcome is, the old man was crucified with Him, and being dead, you are now freed from sin.

The assertion is that I'm reading myself into this text. Since it all hinges on whether or not one is baptized into Jesus Christ, the question is, have I been baptized into Jesus Christ?
