Is forgiveness just not taking personal vengeance? Is it forgetting the past and being open to reconciliation? What does it look like and are there limits?

"Forgive" means to give something in advance of it's due season. In the case of God's forgiveness, it is showing mercy where none is indicated or deserved whatsoever. And it is not only this. It is also being in a state of readiness to act as if literally no offense is taken.

This "state" (because it borders on presumption and blasphemy to try to describe His mind as one like ours) is completely foreign to fallen human nature.

We often hear folks say things like "I don't know if I can ever forgive _____." Or "I'm having a hard time forgiving ______." These human modalities of forgiveness are completely foreign to the quality of mercy that is God's glory.

Jesus says we are to forgive as we are forgiven. We are told to walk even as He walked. No one should expect to be able to render this kind of service to God without an unnaturally inordinate amount of wrestling with God in prayer.

Every fruit of the Spirit is enlisted in true forgiveness. Think of the worst depths of degradation and sin. This is the kind God must countenance and forbear 24/7. What kind of love could perform this besides the matchless, multi-faceted love of God in Christ?

God bids us to share His glory as partakers of the divine nature. He gives His Spirit without measure to those who will condescend to admit their dire need to Him. He will not force-feed righteousness on any who thirst not and hunger not. But He will in no wise turn away any who desire, and faint not, to be filled with all the fulness of God.

Claim whatever you want, but Jews, Muslims, and Christians worship the same God. The Arabic name for God is "Allah". That is the name that Arabic Christians use when referring to Yahweh/ Jehovah.

Your second paragraph indicates that you have not read the Old Testament. God gave instructions to kill others MANY TIMES. That is a fact that you must accept.

I don't know how many times I have to point out these facts...

Jesus was a Jew.
All His disciples were Jews.
All the apostles were Jews.
All the members of the earliest churches were Jews.
The entire Bible, including the New Testament, was written by Jews (with Luke being the sole exception).

Anyone who opposes the Jews or speaks negatively against them is against God's chosen people. It would be a good idea before anyone goes off on the Jews to read Romans 11 to see how the Jews fit into God's plan. This is how this important chapter begins: "I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew." Romans 11:1-2a

No, they are far worse. @amigo de christo perpetually personally criticizes and ridicules me and my beliefs, claiming preposterous things, such as that I am a fan of Islam and Buddhism and that I am part of some false Christianity that embraces every kind of evil, etc. And he ridicules all Christians that don't adhere to his narrow doctrine. We are NOT God, we are to OBEY Him and we were left with two commandments by Christ, Love God AND Love Others..."You've heart it told...but I say to you..." And I read it with understanding. I know that the quote you cite is part of the sermon on the mount, which was told to people who were not Christians. And that it was delivered before the cross and before the giving of the Holy Spirit, who is given to Christians to guide us into all truth.

And we are clearly not under the OT commandments, since Christ died to free us from the legalism of the OT law. Romans 7:4-6, "In the same way, my brothers and sisters, you have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we are enslaved in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the written code."

So you can't serve two masters simultaneously. You either serve the law or you serve Christ.

Why is it so difficult for you (and @amigo) to understand that Muslims (and Jews) do worship the same God that we do? Worshiping God and behavior are two entirely separate things.

And again, must I remind you about the crusades? People, in the name of Christ, committed wholesale slaughter of "infidels". Do you really not know history? As expected, you're twisting what you and Nancy have written earlier. Both of you claimed that Muslims (and Jews) don't worship the same God that we do. That is categorically FALSE! So now you have to claim something different. Gee! What a surprise!
