They no doubt found the need to lampoon Jesus in his day also.
The show does not lampoon Jesus. It shows a human side of God's Anointed.

One thing that turned me off from film depictions of Jesus, like Greatest Story Ever Told, is how they portrayed him as being so above it all, not really in touch with the suffering of ordinary people. Not only is this actor particularly expressing compassion but with a likable sense of humor. Let''s take his 1st miracle.

In The Chosen episode, he went to the wedding with some disciples. Someone commented about Andrew being a horrible dancer. Jesus remembered this assessment and referenced it when he suggested he and his disciples dance at the wedding. The prospect of a man enjoying himself at a wedding, joking, drinking and dancing is not unusual. Refraining from all this is what would be unusual.

Jesus did not come down from heaven to be put on a pedastal. He is the beloved friend you party with, as well as share the more serious and sad times. I think Christendom does a disservice to suggest that celebration is at odds with holiness.

Do it if you feel called to do it.

I am.

Offering people a fictionalized Jesus is dangerous.

Cautioning others about it brings forth your wrath.

That's what's different about this show. It IS a fictional - but feasible Jesus. What you want has been done to death.

A feasible Jesus isn’t the biblical Jesus. As several Christian pastors have pointed out using specific examples, the feasible we have been offered isn’t biblical. The examples they cite contradict the biblical.

I have to say, to his credit, that Jenkins has said in interviews that 95% of The Chosen is not in the Bible.

That leaves the viewers of the program with, by his estimate, 5% that is in the Bible.
You obsess over this estimate. It is consistent with a show depicting events tangential to the text.

I rather enjoy watching an episode, which starts off as a mystery. As the scene develops I figure out what verses the episode has taken a tangent from.

For instance, the back story of the Sermon on the Mount included how Judas joined The Chosen. The season finale cliffhanger was Jesus stepping out from behind a curtain to give the sermon.

The next season began with the sermon over and how people were in awe, trying to process it.

When I read one reviewer of the program - who likes it - refer to the fictionalized Jesus as “goofball Jesus” that crossed a line for me.
How many accolades of the show did you disregard to find the ruff in the diamond field?

How so? You keep saying such nonsense but cannot express in a single post what the danger ... wait for it ... not could be ... not might be ... IS. What IS the danger of glorifying God through art?

I responded in this thread to someone who doubted the figure is true and that Jenkins acknowledged. That person won’t be the only one who doesn’t know. Hammering home the truth is a problem for you.

I’ve been reading and commenting on reviews that praise and reviews that don’t.

Not at all. It's a non-issue.

It's like complaining that the movie about Mark Anthony and Cleopatra expanded beyond the known words of the character. Huh? Whoever said biographies must do this?

Nothing can go wrong with offering a made up Jesus?

You’re assuming that art glorifies God. False presentations in art don’t glorify God.

There are parts that a true to the biblical text and many that are not and he was up front about taking liberty about those. The writer/producer was not trying to be like the other movies about Jesus and the disciples.

One has to be discerning, know their bible and be able to sort that out when watching. I just recently watched it more for the entertainment value, the culture and the biblical parts were just icing on the cake so to speak.

And trust me there is no difference between watching that series sorting things out about the truth and being on any christian forum trying to sort through the truth. If anything the series is more helpful than any forum.

So that is something to consider before throwing the stones and condemning it. Everyone has their own sibjetive opinion on the series just like they do with their own personal beliefs about the bible, Jesus and the Apostles.

You’re toying with Jesus. The more that we’ve talked the more I’ve seen how dangerous it is to present a fictionalized Jesus.

Jesus spoke with authority, the Chosen doesn't not depict that. Jesus flat out challenged the Pharisees. The Pharisees never ever won an argument with Jesus. When Jesus spoke it was with elegance and people listened for long periods of time. The Chosen was really wrong to make Jesus look like he needed a speech writer, or have a stage set up. This is removing His deity. One show had Jesus in a tent as people came to Him to be healed. That's just false. Jesus healed publicly all the time, nothing behind closed doors. Etc.

Who wants us to look at a fictionalized Jesus?

Is it God? Is it Jesus? Is it the devil?

Who wants us to look at the real Jesus?

Is it God? Is it Jesus? Is it the devil?
