The arguments and points about how the sign of the three days three nights applies to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are moot and pointless because was made before Jesus BEGAN to teach them about it:

Mat 12:39 KJV But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

AND,

Mat 16:4 KJV A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Mat 16:13 KJV When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Mar 8:29-31 KJV 29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

31 And he BEGAN to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Mat 16:21 KJV From that time forth BEGAN Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Be Blessed

This timing supports a literal three days and three nights in the tomb before the resurrection.

A preponderance of textual evidence indicates Jesus' crucified dead body
was restored to life during the third day rather than after the third day was
over and done with. In other words, Jesus was deceased for quite a bit less
than 72 hours.

Matt 17:22-23
Matt 20:18-19
Mark 9:31
Luke 9:22
Luke 18:33
Luke 24:5-8
Luke 24:21-23
Luke 24:46
John 2:19
Acts 10:40
1Cor 15:4

Whenever we read the Scriptures, it is vital that we keep in mind the principle that the explicit, direct teaching passages of the Bible must control our interpretation of passages that convey their teaching less directly and more implicitly.

The sign of Jonah explicitly states 3 full days and nights.

Mt 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Seeing as how there are eleven new testament verses that explicitly state
Jesus' crucified dead body was restored to life during the third day rather
than after the third day was over and done with; then I think it is safe for
me to say the whale coughed up Jonah during the third day rather than after
the third day was over and done with.

It's pointless to argue. We will never persuade each other. I take all of those verses to men that Jesus was raised after the 3rd day. Since that is in perfect harmony with the sign of Jonah being 3 days and 3 nights I think it's a safe bet. It also aligns with this:

Mk 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and AFTER three days rise again.

Mt 27:63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

Another point to add:
AD 28 this date aligns with the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Aviv (Nisan), corresponding to the Passover, which fell on a Wednesday that year. This timing supports the interpretation of a literal three days and three nights in the tomb before the resurrection.
People have been arguing about it for centuries. I doubt the controversy will be settled here...lol
