That's the way the Bible is written though. There are so many places that say things like, "to them He gave the right to become children of God" refering to those who believed and received. "Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy burdened", "But if I be lifted up (crucified) I will draw all men to Myself", things like this, that if you read them for their face value show God's universal invitation, "Urging you as in Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God", if you read these just like that, as written, God would have us all, but leaves it to us to choose.
Maybe to you that means God isn't in Control, but then, it all depends on what you think God is doing. I think He is gathering a family of those who want to love Him and be with Him. That requires Choice. Just like Adam in the garden, we all choose, and our choices have real consequences. God, in His divine decree, ordained life that way.
Our requirement to make a choice for or against God is well established throughout the Bible. If to you that is works, then you need a new definition of "works". Repentance is itself a change of the mind.

Calvin teaches "perserverance of the Saints" so that is his take on Eternal Security.
But as always.......John Calvin has everything pre-destined, and that is where his theology has no connection to the NT.
What Calvin did was redefine....>>"God's Fore-knowledge" as "God predestined it all"., and that is why all Calvinists rant about "predestined this" and "soverniety that".
Calvin has everything. FALSELY "predestined"........from being born again, to God choosing you to go to Hell".

Then, there are those whose hearts are like the thorny ground. They receive the word, but the cares of this life, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful (Mark 4:18-19). These are the people whose love for the world exceeds their love for God, and as a result, they bear no fruit of righteousness.
Finally, there are those whose hearts are like good soil, those who hear the word, understand it, and keep it, and bear fruit in their lives (Matthew 13:23). These are the ones who will inherit eternal life, for they keep the word of Christ and endure in it.

No one is saved because they "endure to the end", unless they are in the Trib, and "endure to the end" of it.. and that means... you'll more then likely be martyr'd.
They only people who become Tribulation Saints, are people who wre not Chrisitans before they found themselves in the TRIBULATION.
So........Its better to be saved NOW, and miss all that.......Reader., and Jesus on The Cross is inviting you right now.
Christians, "in the time of the Gentiles"... (thats right now)... (before the Trib).... are saved and have received "the gift of Eternal Life" because they have trusted in Christ and God has given them the "new birth".
