the only benefit that i can see of speaking in tongues is you get to tell people you speak in tongues.

would require spiritual translation, not by anyone, but specifically by those with that Holy Spirit gift.

IF you read Acts 2, you'll notice that Peter was using the Gift of Tongues, and unbelieving Jews, heard "in their own language".

This is why Corinthians says that "Tongue are for a sign" and "Signs are for the Jews".

1 Corinthians 14:22

1 Corin 1:22

[1Co 13:1 KJV] 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
He didnt say he did speak with tongues of angels or that the church would...........he said though

[Eph 4:11 KJV] 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Teachers are set in the body of Christ and is not passed away
I thought you were done. But though is a 1st case conditional and is better translated -"since" It gives an inidefiniteness because of the clause "and have not" Also in chptr 12 he gives rules for the use of tongues in the church.

I didn't say teachers. but as you are such an acolyte of Paul above all else you should read his words more carefully:

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

You get rid of tongues, but Paul says prophecy and knowledge will cease as well! Can't have your cake and eat it as well here.

I thought about this more
Paul said THOUGH he spoke with the tongues of angels..........can be read as EVEN IF I spoke with tongues of angels
He was not saying he spoke tongues of angels
Now see what teh greek says about "though" it is a first case conditional.

That is a "secret place" between the Believer and God.

Its a type of divine intimacy.
i dont see the improvement?

if 2 moms have children in the hospital, one prays in tongues and one prays in the common language, whats the difference?

Not only do I speak in tongues, but I also worship in tongues. Two days ago, I was at a combined prayer meeting leading the worship when the spirit of the Lord came on me and I began to sing in tongues. The people there also began to break out in tongues all over the hall and it was a glorious worship time. Tongues is not something I use often or deliberately, It just happens as the lord leads. joy:

I can't speak for your personal experience.

The mother that has faith gets their child healed..........so, in this case the "prayer language" ... this is helping the one mother in her crisis.
Its for her, its not for the child.
Its a form spiritual meditation.

i dont know what that means.
you said the angel language improves people that speak it, but you dont know how it improves people?
The mother that has faith gets their child healed.........
of course faith makes a difference but that was not part of the question
.so, in this case the "prayer language" ... this is helping the one mother in her crisis.
are you saying the Lord only listens to prayers in the angel language? all those prayers in th bible, prayers in the common language, Jesus teaching prayer in the common language, all thats wrong?
im not sure about this

am i the only one that thinks its a bit odd that the Lord has a specific son of the Most High called "Angels" which are messengers, their only job is to go back and forth from this world to the heavens and communicate with us, yet according to the tongue doctrine they can not speak our language nor can we speak to them without the "angel language" (which would make them the worst messenger ever) nor are there any examples of angels speaking in an angel language, Jews never believed angels had a different language. and there is no benefit of speaking in the tongue language. it makes no sense.

i
you said the angel language improves people that speak it, but you dont know how it improves people?

Ive not told you or anyone that the "prayer language" improves them.

i said its for "self edification". "spiritual intimacy" and "meditation".

are you saying the Lord only listens to prayers in the angel language?

The Lord hears our Prayers, because the Lord is inside us.

"Christ IN YOU........the hope of Glory". (Glory is Heaven).

So....How can He not hear our Prayer?
Of course He hears them., all.
He reads your Throughts........so, He certainly hears our prayers.

Take my advice.
Dont chase spiritual gifts........and if you do, dont pursue "the gift of tongues" as its the LEAST Gift.......its #9, on the list, and Paul says to deisre the BEST Gifts........so, that is not going to be "tongues".

edification is improvment

so praying in tongues is no different than praying in our common language. so why do it?

[1Co 14:22 KJV] 22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying [serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Tongues was the gifted ability to speak in a foreign language.

It was a sign to confirm the authenticity of the message and those who preached it.

Tongues were meant to be a sign to the unbelievers, that the message of the Lord was to be believed.

[1Co 13:8 KJV] 8 Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Tongues have ceased and are no longer needed. We have the completed word of God to be believed.

[1Co 14:23 KJV] 23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in [those that are] unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

I personally went to a church that spoke in tongues and can confirm that what they spoke was nothing but gibberish.
I went through this one, too.

I don't disagree with you. I just wanted to add 1 Corinthians 14:21 has a little footnote at the end of it, which will lead you back to Isaiah 28:11-12.

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

thats no different than common language?

Its different, as its not known to you, as you hear it.

that provides no edification?

It provides edifcation to the person, themselves.

these are taught throughout the bible, no angel language needed.

Ive not stated that its needed or not needed.
Its not a proof of spirituality or spiritual maturity.

In Fact, the most carnal group of Christians, in the entire NT, are the Corinthinan Christians, and this is where you find all the "tongues", verses.
So, thats something to consider.
Paul said they were carnal babies.
