Did the Serpent deceive A&E by lying,
or by telling the truth?

Discussion questions:
- What were the stated consequences WHEN Adam and Eve ate from the tree?
- Did Adam understand these consequences?
- What did the serpent say to A&E?
- Was there any truth in what the Serpent said?
- Why did God ban the man from the garden?

Bonus question:
- What sort of death did A&E die the day they ate thereof?

[
I would suggest their religious minds died.

@St. SteVen I’d asked @Jay Ross a question on another of your posts. He hasn’t answered yet, if you wouldn’t mind I’d like to hear your answer as well?

New Testament scripture tells us that there is a reference to the resurrection of Jesus in the Old Testament. Where is this reference?

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
— John 2:22

This is the first hint. Not sure if this is the one you are looking for.

Genesis 3:13-15 NIV
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel
.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe one of these?
Isaiah 53:11 NIV
After he has suffered,
he will see the light of life[a] and be satisfied[b];
by his knowledge[c] my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
Psalm 16:10 NIV
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
--- quoted in Acts chapter two ---
Acts 2:24-28 NIV
But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:
“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay
.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[a]
Kinda vague, but what about this?
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
— 1 Timothy 2:14-15
If the they mentioned here are literally biological female’s, then how do the women that can’t bare children get themselves saved?
Is it odd that Jesus and also his apostles often refer to themselves with feminine imagery?
The knee-jerk reaction is to claim the serpent lied.
Let's give this a closer look.
Genesis 2:15-17 NIV
The Lord God took the man and put him in
the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
16 And the Lord God commanded the man,
“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
17 but you must not eat from the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil,
for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 3:1-5 NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of
the wild animals the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God really say,
‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent,
“We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit
from the tree that is in the middle of the garden,
and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,”
the serpent said to the woman.
5 “For God knows that when you eat from it
your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:22 NIV
And the Lord God said,
“The man has now become like one of us,
knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed
to reach out his hand and take also from
the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Did the Serpent deceive A&E by lying,
or by telling the truth?
Discussion questions:
- What were the stated consequences WHEN Adam and Eve ate from the tree?
- Did Adam understand these consequences?
- What did the serpent say to A&E?
- Was there any truth in what the Serpent said?
- Why did God ban the man from the garden?
Bonus question:
- What sort of death did A&E die the day they ate thereof?
Some things to consider…..
The creation stories bring up some questions….
There are two creation stories that do not match. Why?
The correct translation for the Garden of Eden is Paradise of Delights.
An intelligent talking serpent? That does not appear anywhere else in the Bible.
Were Adam and Eve prepared to match wits with such a creature?
Genesis does not identify the serpent as Satan.
The Hebrew Bible that we call the Old Testament….The Jews do not believe in a devil or Hell.
Was it fair to judge all of humanity on the actions of Adam and Eve?
Eve is blamed for the fall of Man and sets the stage for females being set at a second rate status. From there on they were consider property.
Once they ate of the fruit of the tree Adam and Eve did not die, so it was a different type of death.
What was the knowledge of good and evil? It seems that part of that knowledge was the ability to become godlike?
Once outside of Paradise, Cain went to the land of Nod for a wife, who were the people outside of Paradise?
Was the urgency for having clothes because the people outside of paradise wore clothes?
Something else I find to be odd, the curse that is given to Adam and Eve is actually played out between two brothers, their offspring. God told Cain that if he did good he’d rule the younger all the days of his life, and ables desire would be to him alone, but if he did evil,,,, sin was at the door?
Please elaborate.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
— Luke 13:34
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
— Galatians 4:19
I have a question if you don’t mind JR, what Old Testament scripture is it that references the resurrection of Jesus?
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
— John 2:22
The John 2:22 passage is silent as to what John was referring to.
John 2:13-22: - 13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”
18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”
19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
I need some clarification from you.
What was the sign that Jesus referenced from time He would raise the temple up again in three days?
When did this sign take place?
What was the understanding of the Jews, who were asking Jesus for a sign, what the sign was?
Did Jesus' resurrection happen before or after the sign Jesus gave?
@St. SteVen I’d asked @Jay Ross a question on another of your posts. He hasn’t answered yet, . . . . .
Waiting on Him, please note that the clock that I use has been set to be 14-16 hrs ahead of yours. The GMT for the east coast of Australia is +10 hrs, so if I have not responded to your post, it might be that I was asleep when you saved your post quoted above.
At the moment it is currently 9:24 am October Saturday 11
