Agreed. Some of God's expressed thoughts have been written down and have been compiled into a book. We also know that on many occasions not only individual words have been added and taken away but whole books have been. While I can appreciate knowing that the Spirit of Christ in us will use ways and means of revelation outside of what is written, I also know that anything we say is of the Spirit of Christ must be weighed against that which is written. We know what is written and have blessed assurance of what is written not because the Bible is our idol, but because the Word tells to search the Scriptures, and that is that which God has providentially given us in written form. It is through the Scriptures, the written Word of God that "the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
John 5:39 (KJV) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV) And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
So what people consider as scripture is hotly debated to this day. Sorry, hotly debated by humans not God, as These 3 are in agreement, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost.
The positive truth is that God's words have been expressed to us since He met with Adam and Eve in His garden. God is not mute. He continues to communicate new truths with His children who He loves.
