I see the news and politics as only useful up to a point. There's very little most of us can do to affect the globe or our nation. There's much we can do about how we live and how we impact our families and friends.

I have essentially given up on wider society. I see my efforts best focused on my little family---the ones I can truly impact.

Another example is race. I'm African American but Ive given up trying to feel responsible for the plight or actions of every other African American in the US. If they didn't raise me, it's none of my business. It doesn't have the power to make me sad or angry like it used to.

This mindset allows me to tune out a lot of noise and distractions. I focus on what is directly within my control and Im a lot happier for it.

Am I the best wife I can be? The best Mom? The healthiest I can be? The best Christian? I can't worry about what the president is doing before I worry about what kind of impact Im making in my own world.

Most of the news is bad news and most of it, we can do nothing about. Better to follow God and keep some peace in your heart.

We can't control the state of the nation or the corruption displayed on the news every day. But can we clean our rooms? Can we help our neighbor and the homeless in our community? Can we be good to the elderly in our families? Can we call and check on someone? Let's clean up our corner of the world before we worry about the state of it's entirety.

I agree that news is really of no benefit as a whole. Especially since there is so much propaganda in the news these days.
I disagree though when we take a look at politics. Even just using the Bible as reference there is much that we can and should advocate for in the politic realm. For example, I may never put an end to abortion but I can do my darndest to make sure that I speak for and fight for every life. No matter what age. When we as Christians stay out of politics that leaves all that room for evil to run unchecked. I may never make a huge difference in politics, but I am sure going to try.
